Join us for 8 Songs for a Mad King 👑

A semi-staged performance exploring mental illness through three powerful works, centred on 8 Songs for a Mad King — Peter Maxwell Davies’ haunting portrayal of King George III’s descent into madness (yes, the same King from Hamilton) — alongside By Gis and by Saint Charity and Kreisleriana, which delve into fractured inner worlds and troubled psyches. 🎶

🎭 Brace yourselves for this semi-staged performance that delves into our perceptions of mental illness, anchored by 8 Songs for a Mad King - Peter Maxwell Davies’ harrowing portrayal of King George III and his descent into ‘madness’.

👑 Fun fact: this is the same King George III you’ll recognise from Hamilton (though not quite like this!)

🎤 In our bold interpretation, Mezzo-Soprano takes on the role of the King, bringing a new and thought-provoking perspective to the character.

🌑 Alongside this, By Gis and by Saint Charity draws us into Ophelia’s claustrophobic inner world.

🎹 And in Kreisleriana, composer Robert Schumann’s own troubled psyche echoes hauntingly, which is a pretty chilling reflection, knowing he would later spend his final years in an asylum.

👉 Conducted by our friend,
