A lovely visit to RHS Bridgewater, nr Worsley, outside Manchester. Once visited by Queen Victoria (who arrived on a Royal barge via the nearby Bridgewater Canal Basin) and King Edward VII, Worsley New Hall survived a fire and two World Wars before it was demolished in the 1940s . The beautiful house cost about £6m in today's prices and was built by the Edgeton family. Once the house had been used as an army base, the family moved out and after a fire destroyed part of the house, it was demolished. The gardens were extensive, and this is where the RHS North garden is situated today.
