A lovely visit to RHS Bridgewater, nr Worsley, outside Manchester. Once visited by Queen Victoria (who arrived on a Royal barge via the nearby Bridgewater Canal Basin) and King Edward VII, Worsley New Hall survived a fire and two World Wars before it was demolished in the 1940s . The beautiful house cost about £6m in today's prices and was built by the Edgeton family. Once the house had been used as an army base, the family moved out and after a fire destroyed part of the house, it was demolished. The gardens were extensive, and this is where the RHS North garden is situated today.

Stormy skies and our hawthorne tree...perhaps I should pick a sprig to wear in my lapel to protect us from lightning .....or wait until the midnight hour of Twelfth Night to protect us from harm for whole year.
Either way...the thunder has started so I'll need to be quick.

A visit to Salford Lads' Club today; a recreational club in the Ordsall area of Salford, Manchester in England. The club, on the corner of St. Ignatius Walk and Coronation Street, was established in 1903 as a boys' club and opened by Lord Baden Powell which today welcomes people of both sexes and organises activities including sports and exhibitions. There is a fabulous collection of photographic records from over a century's worth of camping visits made by children to all parts of Britain. The Victorian building is beautiful and The Smiths Room is full of photos of visitors, some famous, some not, memorabilia and posters. The front of The Salford Lads' Club is immortalised by the photo of some of Manchester's boys....The Smiths. Great shop too.....visit on Saturdays and Wednesdays.

Spring around the corner.......

An enjoyable afternoon of painting wooden boxes that I've squirreled away. Do little boxes multiply by themselves?
