🛡️ Discover ÓÐR HIRD – Manchester’s Early Medieval Reenactment Group! ⚔️

Interested in the Viking Age? Want to learn new skills, meet great people, and maybe try a bit of full-contact combat along the way?

ÓÐR HIRD is a friendly community of history enthusiasts bringing the 9th–11th centuries to life through combat, crafts, music, and social activities. While we focus on Eastern Style full-contact fighting, we also love getting hands-on with weaving, stitching, leatherwork, metalworking, and other traditional crafts.

You don’t need any experience to join – just enthusiasm and curiosity! Whether you’re drawn to the combat, the craftsmanship, or simply the company, there’s a place for you in our group.

We invite you to our next craft workshop.
This time we will demonstrate the ancient skill of Heddle weaving!

✨ Heddle Weaving Workshop ✨
Join us for a family-friendly craft session and discover the ancient art of heddle weaving – a technique that has been used for centuries to create beautiful, decorative bands and trims.
During the workshop, you’ll weave your own band, perfect as a belt, tunic edging, or non-historical accessory such as a bracelet or a bookmark.
Please consider how you’d like to use your band – this will help us choose the right width and amount of yarn.
🧵 Simple heddles will be available to purchase for a symbolic fee.
☕ Free entry – donations welcome!
🍰 Coffee and cakes will also be available for purchase.
No experience needed – just curiosity and enthusiasm!
I’ll guide you through the process step by step 🧶✨

ÓÐR HIRD Wants You 🫵

Do you like Vikings?
Ever wondered what it feels like to stand in a shield wall?
To hold a sword or shield, feel the adrenaline pumping through your veins?
Maybe you’re the type who prefers a mighty two-handed axe—or perhaps you’d rather strike fear with a spear?

Well, you’re in luck! ÓÐR HIRD is now open for training in the Eastern Style full-contact system.

Whether you’re experienced or a complete beginner, we’ve got you covered. Full training is provided, and all necessary equipment is available—you just need to bring yourself 🫵.

What to Expect:

First Training – Come along, watch what we do, and have a chat. Try out a few swings with a sword or axe. If you’re interested, we’ll guide you through a safety assessment, explain the system, and get you insured.

Second Training – Join in! You’ll learn the basics, weapon control, and safety principles.

Third Training – Once you’ve got the basics down, you can take part in more active fighting—always at your own pace. Everyone learns differently, and we’ll support your journey.
