Cross Street Chapel, Manchester
is looking for a
Sunday Musician
to accompany our congregation and provide incidental music for worship.

• Salaried Position with 6 weeks’ paid holiday (pro rata)
• Annual salary: £2,610 (£45/service), plus additional fee for weddings and funerals
• Year-round position, but can be negotiated if necessary.
• Opportunity to play differing musical styles and repertoire.
• Chance to collaborate with other musicians.
• Perform in a beautiful round chapel space for an enthusiastic congregation

Essential
High standard of musical performance and awareness
Proficient on piano
Ability to accompany and respond to a congregation
Sensitivity to the values of the chapel
and service themes

Desireable
Proficient on organ
Experience playing with a congregation
Willingness to get to know the community

About Us
Cross Street Chapel is a Unitarian community at the heart of Manchester. Founded in 1662, the congregation now occupies a modern space with a Yamaha Medium Grand Piano and Makin Electric Organ. We are a diverse and liberal group, who is familiar with a variety of hymns and songs, and enjoy both traditional and improvisatory music. Our Sunday services usually include four hymns and three incidental pieces (prelude, interlude and postlude), and run from 10:45-11:45.

We are delighted to be returning to our Friday lunchtime recitals at Cross Street Chapel. COVID MEASURES
In order to keep our audiences safe:
- Seating will be arranged so that those booking together can sit together with space left between groups.

We are sad to be losing our Sunday pianist, Aaron Breeze, who heads off to Linz, Austria, for a new job next month. Aaron's creativity and talent have been assets for our community, and we will miss his wonderful music and caring presence.

We are excited to announce that on Friday 4th December at 7pm, UK-time, we will be streaming our annual "Anthems for Advent" as an online event. This year's concert service, on the theme of "Joy and Woe are Woven Fine", will feature performances from members of Cross Street, international performers with connections to the chapel and The Roundelay & Friends Virtual Choir. The event will be in aid of Help Musicians (HelpMusicians.org.uk), showing our support for the artists, musicians and writers who have helped us through lockdown and who have dedicated their lives to the arts.
