A little post about -well, against- using generative AI for promotion. Feel free to share your thoughts. Sorry for the tiny text, I didn't want to make it a whole carousel, but here's the full text:
Hiya! It just occurred to me that some people might look at the XS promo posts and wonder if we use AI for any of it. We don’t, obvs, and I never would, but I think that’s worth saying explicitly especially when it’s
getting harder and harder to tell this kind of thing, and it’s becoming more and more common for event promotion.
So if Toby ever has seven fingers, or the perspective is whack, that’s just down to my bad photoshopping.
I love to see comedy events with weird, unique visual identities, whether they’re DIY nights or pro clubs, but I get not everyone has the time or budget for that (or someone who’ll do it for free), but I’d rather see a clip art poster than an AI one. Personally I love making the XS stuff, I get to do something different to my own artwork and go down some nerdy rabbit-holes, and I think the acts deserve decent promo.
Not calling anyone out, just in a world where I can already feel the financial hit of Gen AI I’d love it if there was a bit more thought put into the implications of using this stuff (plus it looks kinda ugly, and there is a
growing number of punters who will avoid anything using AI promo, so I’m not sure it helps anyone in the long-term).
Oh, and I’d never use a text generator either, this annoying tone is all me, soz.
Big Malarkey love, Jon x
