‘Don’t Dream It. Be It’
I grew up listening to Dolly but I discovered Tim on my own, more specifically Frank-n-Furter, one New Years Eve when I think I was about 11 or 12. Adults asleep in front of the tv as Big Ben interrupted the Floor Show of Rocky Horror Picture Show. I then spotted Tim Curry in other things, each role proving what an amazing actor he was, but my first Tim Curry love was Frank. The film and Tim explained a lot to me about my life growing up in an alternative street carnival community theatre company. It made sense, my weird and wonderful existence with all the fabulous people I loved made sense. Then there was the first time I showed it to my best friends, the Sealed Knot costume night with the Czech Regiment on drums, my 18th Sing-a-Long where all my friends dressed up and one incredible blonde Frank was born, ‘jump to the left’ our first wedding dance, then celebrating our 20th anniversary at the 50th screening, and now I am reading Tim’s Autobiography (highly recommend!).
This years has been brutal with Giles (Anthony Head), Moira (Catherine O’Hara), Dolly Parton… but Tim Curry particularly hit me hard.
