We transform urban environments into joyous spaces through creative, active and public celebrations of local and collaborative creativity Stretford STRIDE is a collaborative, community project between SAC32, Stretford Street Art Club and Emerald LENS CIC, three Stretford based organisations with proven knowledge and experience creating and delivering physical/visual arts installations within our l
ocal community. Our project is part of, and funded by Rights to the Streets & Greater Manchester Moving (North Trafford) a home office backed incentive tackling gender-based violence, exploring ways to make streets and public spaces safer and more welcoming for women and girls. Our project is one of many art activities in the area between Sep 22 & Sep 23. Stretford STRIDE aims to transform Stretford’s urban environment through a joyous, active and public celebration of female creativity. Our objective is to enable residents to use art, creativity and fashion as a critical tool to explore issues faced by women and girls and a means of expression, sharing skills and knowledge, enriching the lives around us. As a collective we feel strongly about themes of repair, reuse, recycle and aim to embed creative yet sustainable practice within our community. Stretford STRIDE is an event, a first of its kind! Held in early September (date tbc), consisting of a parade, window exhibition and disco. We will host several workshops during June, July & August leading up to the event day to encourage debate around women/girls safety, belonging and active opportunities within our local area and harness the creativity of our community to produce a number of statement making artworks. These include co_designed t-shirts, embellished garments, kids capes & headdresses, lanterns and a DIY publication. The workshops will shine a light on local talent - often hosted by professional creatives based in the area. We hope that people interested in design and creative careers will benefit from this contact and shared knowledge. no experience is necessary and all materials are provided.
