It’s not been a straight and narrow road creating an Etsy business. There’s so much you learn along the way from understanding the tax self assessment system to sourcing decent materials and navigating social media. Here are some tips we’d share with ourselves when we started half a decade ago…
1.Just make it exist, you can make it good later. We spent so long to set up our business as we were worrying about aesthetics and what to name the Etsy that we lost sight of more important things such as logistics and admin.
2.Don’t be afraid to experiment with new ideas and materials. In the beginning we were using 4 colours from Halfords. Now we are lucky to have found an amazing spray paint company that has a wonderful range of colours and have a better more sustainable way to package our materials. Experimenting helps grow and paves a way to new ideas. Don’t be afraid to move forward and let go of things that aren’t working for you and your business.
3.Learn about the Etsy system before diving in. This one is super important as Etsy has its own fees, SEO and shipping profiles/ prices. Nothing crazy, just the basics to get you up and running so you can learn as you go from there.
4.Find your niche. What are you giving the world that no one else is doing? This will help you build your audience and a community.

Idea from arrabellagilesjewellery!

is made up of myself (Michelle) and Ben. Making pieces of cork into displays for your pin collection. As let’s be honest collecting pins is an expensive hobby- those little enamel pieces deserve to be displayed

I’m no social media specialist- I rarely post on my personal social media.

I feel like posting now is like shouting into the void. What can I do?

It’s been awhile since we posted on our social media.

Sometimes it’s just so nice switching off from the digital, not having to worry about doom scrolling, hashtags, reel “hooks” and what audio to put on a video.

But well here we go again… but let’s do things differently. While Beecorked is our little business, we have began to become little gardeners and are hoping to create an allotment. So I’ll be posting more cats, more about our garden mishaps, might even do a little preparing for WW3 and of course life in Manchester. If you’re interested stick around …
