Social media was originally designed to bring people together, keep us connected and help us stay in touch.

But I can’t help noticing lately that, for a platform designed to connect people, so many posts seem to reflect the complete opposite.

People coming across as lonely, unhappy, bitter, constantly seeking validation or feeling the need to prove something to complete strangers.

And I don’t necessarily think people even realise how they’re presenting themselves online.

It’s almost as though we’ve never been more connected digitally, yet so many people seem completely disconnected in real life.

I’m not saying everyone needs to be happy all the time, or that people shouldn’t express themselves. But sometimes I do wonder whether social media is actually bringing people closer together or quietly pushing them further apart.

We’ve got hundreds of friends, thousands of followers and instant access to almost anyone, yet genuine human connection seems harder to find than ever.

Just an observation.

Another cracking Thursday night at The Black Boy! Some familiar faces, some questionable team names and a few surprises on the leaderboard.

As always, nobody gets forgotten. Here’s your weekly rundown, from the champions right down to our wooden spoon winner!

THE GIRLS HAVE DONE IT! 👏 After finishing eighth last week, they’ve come back and taken the top spot! Clearly last week’s performance was just a warm-up. Enjoy the bragging rights, ladies!

🥈 2nd – Bad Boys 4 Wife Ray (208 points)

Our resident gentleman and Tottenham supporter finishes just THREE points behind the winners! Another fantastic performance. Honestly, if Spurs were as consistent as Ray, they’d have a trophy cabinet worth looking at. 😂

🥉 3rd – BB (195 points)

Last week’s champions, Tom and the BB, knocked off their throne! From first to third in seven days. The standards are slipping, Tom. 😂

4th – Specky’s Lot (193)

Our reigning league champions finish just two points behind the BB. Unfortunately, Specky’s Girls have stolen the family bragging rights this week!

5th – Professional Alcoholics (192)

Fifth place while operating under that team name? Clearly years of dedicated training are paying off. 🍻

6th – Madi Moo (188)

Another strong finish for Madi! Consistently hanging around the top end of the leaderboard. One to watch!

7th – Benthead (187)

Now THAT is a comeback! From 19th last week to seventh this week. Somebody’s been doing their homework!

8th – R O C (183)

The Royal Oak Crew comfortably inside the top ten this week. And more importantly, beating their mates further down the table. That’s what really matters. 😂

9th – We Like to Lick Lucy (174)

I’m not even going to ask. Some team names are better left unexplained. 😂

10th – Becky Bee Stings (167)

Last week’s runner-up has dropped to tenth! From missing out on first place by ONE point to this. A difficult week in the Bee Stings camp. 😂

11th – Birthday Girl and Bestie (164)

Happy birthday! Hopefully you enjoyed your night. Unfortunately, the birthday wishes didn’t come with any bonus quiz points.

12th – I Yam Bullet (160)

Not quite bullet speed up the leaderboard, but a respectable middle-of-the-table finish!

Joint 12th – 2 in the Pink 1 in the Stink (160)

Another team name I’m choosing not to investigate. This is a family pub. Occasionally. 😂

14th – Mason Statham (159)

Mason normally manages to juggle serving drinks and answering questions. This week, he was one point away from a three-way tie. Maybe concentrate on the quiz and let somebody else pour the pints. 😂

15th – J (157)

Just J. One letter, 157 points. Clearly used up all the creativity answering the questions rather than naming the team.

Joint 16th – Chicken Nugget (150)

A solid 150 points. Not quite a full meal, but certainly not a bad effort.

Joint 16th – Leek Ma Diik (150)

I’m starting to think some of you spend longer coming up with inappropriate team names than actually studying for the quiz. 😂

Joint 16th – Les and No Thank You (150)

Whoever Les is, somebody clearly isn’t impressed with him. Still, 150 points isn’t a disaster!

19th – Hary Khunt (143)

I’m reading these team names out every Thursday and some of you are really testing my professionalism. 😂

20th – Snort Direct (140)

Sounds like a company that would have a very interesting Christmas party. That’s all I’m saying.

21st – Sosig Chean an Bean (130)

Dylan and the gang finish 53 points behind the Royal Oak Crew. That’s not a defeat, that’s a family embarrassment. 😂

22nd – Jamin (128)

And somehow Jamin has managed to finish another two points behind Dylan! The Royal Oak extended family aren’t exactly setting the world alight this week.

23rd – Shortie (114)

Bottom three, but at least you’ve avoided the final two places. Small victories and all that!

Another one-letter team name. Unfortunately, the score wasn’t much longer. 😂

I don’t know whether you were answering the questions, guessing randomly or just enjoying a lovely evening out.

🎮 FIFA, MUSIC & QUIZ NIGHT AT THE BLACK BOY TONIGHT!

We’re trying something a little different tonight!

Me and Jack will be down at The Black Boy from 7pm with the PlayStation set up for a few games of FIFA before the usual Thursday quiz night.

Unfortunately, our previously planned FIFA night didn’t go ahead for various reasons, so we’re bringing it back from a slightly different angle!

And just for the record… Jack is currently 1–0 up after beating me 4–2 yesterday. I’m not happy about it, and I’ll be looking for revenge tonight. 😂

Random 2am thought… but I genuinely think there could be something in this.

I’ve been dating a little bit this year, and recently decided to stop seeing someone. She was beautiful, lovely person, nothing particularly wrong at all — I initially told myself I’m just too busy with work, gym and everything else.

But thinking about it properly, that’s probably just an excuse. If the connection was really there, I’d find the time.

Which got me thinking about what actually creates that connection for me.

I’m 35, born in 1991, but anyone who knows me knows I’ve got a ridiculous passion for 80s/90s soul, R&B and funk. Being a DJ probably makes music an even bigger part of who I am.

Imagine a dating app where, instead of initially matching because you both liked each other’s photos, you matched because of the music you genuinely love.

Not just picking “R&B” as a genre. I’m talking actual songs.

Imagine finding somebody and discovering you both independently chose tracks like:

Zapp – Computer Love
Gwen McCrae – Girlfriend’s Boyfriend
Alexander O’Neal – Never Knew Love Like This
Keith Sweat – Nobody
SWV – Anything
The Gap Band – Outstanding
Dennis Edwards – Don’t Look Any Further

If somebody matched five or six songs that genuinely mean something to you, wouldn’t you immediately want to know more about them?

And they wouldn’t necessarily have to already love every song. I’d actually find it attractive if someone said, “I’ve never heard that — play it for me.”

Because for me, sharing music with somebody and watching them discover something you love is part of the connection.

So here’s my question…

If you could choose 3, 5 or even 10 songs that you’d LOVE a future partner to know, love, or at least be open-minded enough to discover with you — what are they?
