🚜 Our lavender harvest is happening this week 🪻
Select days from Wednesday 2nd to Sunday 6th September (depending on the weather)
How does it work?
🪻 The lavender we grow here at Woldies is cut and collected either by hand or with our specially adapted harvester
🪻We use the train tracks to transport the cut flowers to the still
🪻The flowers and stems are loaded into the still by hand
🪻The wood fire is used to heat water in the giant kettle to produce steam, the steam is then fed through the lavender which breaks it down to release the oil
🪻The steam containing the oil is passed through the condenser - this uses cold water from our ponds (not mixed in don’t worry!) to cool it back down to water
🪻The oil and lavender water are then separated and filtered
🪻The ‘spent’ lavender is used as a mulch on our trees and hedges to retain water, provide nutrients and homes for insects
🪻All our Woldies own Wolds Way Lavender products contain our oil -grown, harvested and distilled here on site. We bottle and label our products here ready to sell in our gift shop and online.
