Meet festival organisers Perthshire Wool at Rooted Textiles ✨

We farm a 500-head flock of breeding ewes near the villages of Madderty and Methven in Perthshire, Scotland. We offer a range of traceable yarns grown with care and dedication made from quality fleeces from our flock and local farms.

Our yarns are botanically dyed with plants we grow in our garden or gather from the local countryside, such as woad, coreopsis, nettle, bracken and dock. What we can’t use for textiles we make into a natural fertiliser and soil conditioner so no wool goes to waste. We also offer knitting kits and natural UK-made yarn and fibre accessories.

From raising our sheep to shearing and preparing wool for bespoke bases and blends, our yarns are full of the character of the sheep that produce them, and each colour a trace of nature’s palette from soil to soil.

We are delighted to be delivering the Rooted Textiles festival again this year and look forward to welcoming everyone to Madderty soon.

Meet Moorit at Rooted Textiles ✨

Moorit is an independent crochet magazine based in Edinburgh and run by Alyson Chu. Launched in 2021, it was imagined as an antidote to the dearth of print publications made especially for crocheters. Focussing on wearable, modern garments and accessories made in natural fibres, Moorit is a high-end craft magazine with true indie spirit.

Alyson will also be giving a talk at the festival on Making Moorit. Please see our talks + workshop page at www.rootedtextiles.co.uk for further details and to book a ticket.

Meet Culross Yarn at Rooted Textiles ✨

Veronica and Rachel at Culross Yarn culross_yarn are passionate about Scottish wool, grown and dyed in our own home. We love looking after our small flock of Shetland Cross sheep and knitting with the yarn produced from their fleece. We use natural dyes, many of which we grow ourselves, to dye the yarn, producing a wide selection of colours, perfect for colour work.

Rachel designs and machine knits using Fair Isle style patterns and Veronica makes cakes of colourful yarn and knitting kits. Our main reason for doing this is to remind people of the amazing qualities of wool and the delights of natural dye colours.

Meet Shearing Crafts at Rooted Textiles ✨

“I am a shearer specialising in small flocks and rare breed sheep. The fleeces are the raw materials for my wet felted rugs and pet beds. They look like traditional sheepskins but are 100% wool, made by hand using soap and water.

I also have carded batts and washed locks available.”
