KEMS King Edward Musical Society: Macclesfield Singers, Symphony Orchestra, Concert Band & Contemporary

Who we are
We’re a music society comprising three sections: a large mixed-voice Choir, an Orchestra and a Concert Band. Our friendly members, who cover a wide age range, have one thing in common: we take making music very seriously, always striving for the best possible performances. The Society celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2006-7 with a performance of Verdi's Requiem at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester

Macclesfield Symphony Orchestra's concert, "Orchestral Fireworks" certainly ended this KEMS season with a bang! They played an exciting, and not the most easy, selection of music to a packed United Reformed Church on Park Green. The programme started with Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture followed by 2 Saint Saëns pieces, Omphale's Spinning Wheel and Bacchanale from the opera, Samson & Delilah. After the interval came the tremendous Shostakovich 5th Symphony in D minor. The standing ovation at the end said it all! It was definitely a night to be remembered and a credit to the conductor and all the players. After a well deserved rest, they will be back in October with the Dvorak Cello Concerto.

It was a sociable and enjoyable end to the season for Macclesfield Singers at Sutton Church Hall. Mark McCombs and James Heathcote took them through a selection of folk songs interspersed with breaks for home made cakes and lunch at the local pub.
They now have a summer break before starting back in September for KEMS's 70th season which will feature a full performance of Handel's Messiah on Saturday 14th November. New Singers always welcome!
