We are excited to present ‘Macclesfield Dog Walks’ by local ceramicist and dog lover Helen Wright - a collection of characterful pottery dogs in The that will amuse and delight visitors! It's open 24 hours a day in the phone boxes in the Market Place.

You might recognise some of these canine companions from walks in South Park or visiting Treacle Market, others from walks up Tegg’s Nose or following the Middlewood Way.

Helen has been making her creations in clay for over 30 years. She was a member of The Longden Gallery before setting up her ceramic studio at home. She is best known for her large bull terriers and humorous dogs.

Helen said: “I’m excited to share my ceramic creations as part of the 1261 Festival and work with the community to create their own 3D sculptures. I hope the installation will bring a lot of smiles to those who stop to look at my work.”

Helen will be running a clay animal workshop next to the phone boxes on 1261 Festival Day on June 20th, so you can have a go yourself! Drop by from 10:00-16:00.

Michael Holly ‘Prisoner in Your Own Mind’ and ‘Helmet of Salvation’

“I have been in active addiction for 25 years, and through all of this I have lost myself, pushed my family away and developed so many bad habits. Since being in ROAR I have learned to love myself and life again. 

The first artwork I did is about being a prisoner in your own mind and how them negative thoughts and actions keep you locked inside your own head. The longer you stay locked in the worse the addiction gets.

Helmet of Salvation represents the freedom it gives you when you wear it and choose to live life a different way.”

Olly Poole ‘Doors Exit to Hell’

“This piece depicts the brutal, harsh reality of life in addiction. The three figures at the bottom show a man, woman and child. I thought it was important to show addiction does not discriminate. Throughout my time in ROAR a common expression used is "It’s like living in Hell". The door represents what is waiting for you on the other side, a world of chaos, pain and guilt.”

Josh Mellor ‘The Mannequins’

“The Mannequin represents the savageness and desperation of addiction. My addiction led me down to new lows and even when I’d hit the bottom there was still always further to fall.

Since coming into ROAR I have managed to find a way back up to the top, where a beautiful new horizon is in clear view and I can travel towards it, towards a life worth living. I have discovered my true self and learned that there is much more substance to life than substances and alcohol.”

“After 17 years of addiction, Reach Out And Recover has helped me save my life and learn how to live clean and sober. I have my family back, and they have me. The QR code plays my song ‘BACK TO ME’, which I wrote for my mum.”

Artists from local charity Reach Out and Recover have created an installation in The using each phone box to create vibrant visual art on the themes of Addiction and Recovery. They hope to raise awareness about the complex social and mental health challenges involved with addiction and the journey of recovery, and the organisation is fundraising to continue its work. There are also QR codes linking to songs by one of the artists.

Reach Out And Recover is an award-winning organisation built on the ethos of helping people to see the person and not the addict, label or stereotype. To support people to overcome traumatic and unpleasant life challenges, through love, care, and structure, offering support groups, therapy and much more for individuals and family and friends affected by a loved one experiencing addiction.

01625 Gallery Presents Notable Women of Macclesfield: The Three Annies by
and as part of The Silk Museum’s first festival celebrating ‘Women’s History Month’.

Museum volunteers ‘The History Hunters’ have created an installation for The that celebrates three women and their achievements, through creative reproductions of artefacts.

Each of the women lived lives beyond the constraints and expectations assigned to them, and each shared the same first name, Annie. Annie Ryles-Wright was a suffragist and supporter of community causes, Annie Whiston was a suffragist and global traveller and Annie Sutton was a textile designer and businesswoman.

The History Hunters are a group of volunteers based at Macclesfield Silk Museum. They assist the museum curators in archival work and discovering the hidden stories to share with the local community. They are working on several events to celebrate ‘The Three Annies’ in 2026, including an introductory exhibition in our phone box gallery, an online exhibition and a display in the Museum’s Community Case.

*Less than 1 week left!* we have absolutely loved having Dead Good Legacies promote their fantastic work opening up conversations about death and dying in the . They even invited people to come and use the wind phone inside which was lovely, it's the first installation to have people inside, around 50 over the 2 Treacles.
Their illustrated "Creative Approaches to Grief" guide shown in the windows here is wonderful, and you can even buy a copy to keep and try them yourself.

Sadly, all good things must come to an end. But we're excited about what's coming from February 10th... Watch this space!

Have you ever made a one-way call on a Phone of the Wind?

' wind phone is currently installed in The as part of a 3-month artist residency.

The phone box gallery will open its door on Sunday 25th January to allow local people & visitors to make a call on the disconnected phone.

LV will be sitting outside the phone box to provide gentle guidance and support. See previous posts for more info about the phone (Boo 2 the skeleton will be removed before you use the phone!).

You can also buy lovely things at a stall in the Churchyard!
