Today for our 'Thursday Throwback' Classic we raided our archives and found this gorgeous Ford Cortina mk3. It was produced between 1970-1976 and for the first time was more or less exactly the same car as the German Taunus. It was based on the then contemporary 'coke bottle' design language that had swept the American market.. and it worked its magic this side of the Atlantic too.... it was Britain's top selling car from '72-'76.

Alas they were so common that few thought it was worth saving any, and today they are rare sights even at Classic car shows!

Our 'Throwback Thursday Classic' today is the ultra rare limited edition Rover 25 BRM that was released in 1999 to celebrate the heritage of the British Racing Motors. It had a 1,7796cc K Series engine producing 145 hp that could take it to 60mph in under 8 seconds and on to a top speed of 127mph.
They all came finished in Brooklands green, a bright orange front grille and silver alloys. The interior was red leather seating, red door cards and a red steering wheel centre.
Ultra rare both then and now, so not cheap to buy.... around £10k.
The BRM 25 was the test bed and forerunner of the later MG 25.

🚘 WE’VE BEEN QUIET… BUT DEFINITELY NOT IDLE! 😅

Since returning from holiday, we’ve been rather quiet on Social Media… mainly because we’ve been flat out creating illustrations! 🎨🚗

So, while the news has been busy with fuel prices, politics, football transfer drama and apparently even another lunar eclipse on the way 🌕… we’ve been concentrating on something much more important:

The office has been busy, the inbox has been busy, the coffee machine has been VERY busy… and Social Media has clearly been the one department that got forgotten about! 😂

With the new 26 registration now in full swing, dealerships are busy getting ready to hand over new cars — and we’re busy making sure those handovers have a personalised gift that customers actually remember. 🎁

Today's 'Throwback Thursday' classic is the wonderful Saab 911.
It came in two generations, the first one from '97 to '09 and the later short lived second generation from '10-'12 when Saab went into liquidation.
It's the Einar Hareide designed first generation we feature here where over 483,000 units left the Terollhatten factory in Sweden.
Featured here is the rare cabriolet version, but we have drawn the saloon and estate versions.
We do also have the second generation 911 drawn.

Todays 'Thursday Throwback' classic is the truly amazing Bentley 'S3' Continental. Coach-built by Mulliner/Park Ward it optimised the golden age of British motor car production. It was the last of the traditional body on chassis method of producing luxury motor cars before Bentley transitioned to more modern construction methods with the 'T' series.
The S3 only had a very short production life of 3 years... '62-'65. The S3 Continental was also very exclusive with only 311 ever being built!

Today's 'Throwback Thursday' classic goes back to the 80's and Austin Rover Groups top of the range 800 series. It was in reality a reclothed Honda Legend, and while the original 1986 mk1 looked rather bland, the remodelled and facelifted mkll of 1991 was a different animal. New curvaceous body panels in conjunction with a traditional Rover grille transformed the 800 and it became the best selling executive car of the mid 90's.
It was replaced by the even better looking Rover 75 in 1999.

Throwback Thursday and the classic car under review today is our drawing of the wonderful Morris 1000 Traveller. The original design was conceived by Alex Issigonis back in 1941 but only saw the light of day when production began in 1948 as the 'MM' Morris Minor. It's big change came in 1956 when a new 948cc engine was fitted and it became known as the Minor 1000 and was fitted with a one piece windscreen.
The estate version known as the 'Traveller' was introduced in '52, the framework being constructed of varnished Ash wood with aluminium body inserts. You needed keep that wood well varnished or the back end would rot away!
Altogether over 1.6 million Minors were sold before production at Cowley ceased in early 1971. A truly great British car!

A very hot 'Throwback Thursday' ... and back in 1963, nothing was hotter than the Rover P6 2000. Celebrated as the first 'European Car of the Year', it totally revolutionised the market in saloon car travel... sleek modern design with a hint of the Citroen DS, unitary body construction, disc brakes all round and a typical British interior of wood, leather and wilton carpet.
It survived through Rover, Leyland Motors and British Leyland and ended up with a 3.5 V8 lump of an engine so beloved of Police forces throughout the UK.
It went through many a facelift (not always for the best) and lasted until 1977 when the Ferrari Daytona inspired SD1 took over the reins.
