What a find!

During the Fossil Festival weekend, Sophie, visiting from Wales found this huge Temnodontosaurus vertebra on the beach, identified on the spot by one of the Lyme Regis Museum Walk Guides, Dan.

Temnodontosaurus was a giant ichthyosaur that swam these very seas around 200 million years ago, and finds of this size are a genuinely exciting moment, even for experienced fossil hunters!

What a wonderfully timely discovery to make during a weekend dedicated to celebrating exactly these kind of remarkable discoveries! It's the perfect reminder that the Jurassic Coast is still revealing its secrets every single day.

Huge congratulations Sophie and thank you for sharing your incredible find with us.

How did we do?

The Lyme Regis Fossil Festival 2026 might be over, but we're already thinking about how to make next year even better - and that's where you come in.

Whether you came for the talks, the workshops, the activities, the shopping, or simply soaked up the atmosphere around the town, we'd love to know what you thought. Your feedback genuinely shapes the Festival - from the events we put on, to the venues we use, to how we welcome visitors of all ages.

It only takes a few minutes to complete, and every single response helps us understand what worked, what didn't, and what you'd love to see in 2027.

"Hello, John"... I had too much fun with that.

Another wonderful Lyme Regis Fossil Festival. A huge congratulations to the organisers and volunteers for doing such a stellar job.

Bob Bob Nicholls Art and I had a great time talking about 'The Secret Lives of Dinosaurs'. Thanks to everyone who came to the talk and took the time to queue! We really hope you enjoyed it.

Despite my voice all but disappearing πŸ˜…, I had a wonderful weekend meeting plenty of people. Love how the palaeo community come together to share their passion for fossils. Students, families, palaeoartists, academics and many others all in their palaeo element.

Just a few snaps from the weekend. Congrats to Sophie on her mega Temnodontosaurus find. A big caudal vert from a beast of an ichthyosaur!

Yesterday, we continued the palaeo fun filming more of an exciting documentary coming soon.
