BRITISH VETERAN SPEEDWAY RIDERS OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
Saturday 19th September. Start time TBC
We plan to run this meeting IF we can get a minimum of four riders in each of the following classes and enough riders in support classes if required.
A maximum of 32 riders in the meeting, ( foreign riders welcome).
With many of the riders who have supported the event over the years now retired and not many over 30 year olds staying in the sport at amateur level numbers are dwindling. So we are sending this message to gauge how many are left to carry on with this meeting which we have run successfully for the last sixteen seasons. Please let us know asap if you would like to ride in the following classes:
2 valve uprights for riders over 45 years of age.
4 valve uprights for riders over 40 years of age.
Laydowns for riders over 30 years of age.
To enter please return an e mail or phone/text 07870 471770.

Malcolm and Angie

Dear All,
We were sad to hear the news that Keith Cornell's mechanic and good friend Richard passed away recently. Affectionately known as "Rich" he was always there to help with any work at the track. He will be greatly missed by all at Lydd speedway. We send our condolences to his family and friends.

NORA
There seems to be some confusion between a NORA licence and a NORA membership by some riders.
If your NORA number begins with an I, A, B or P you have paid NORA for a seasons licence.
If your NORA number begins with a M then it is NOT a licence. It is merely a membership where you have registered your details on line and cost you £2. This means you do not have to fill in a day licence form each time you ride at a NORA practice but still have to pay for a day licence. So a practice session at Lydd will cost an extra £5 for your day licence.
The charge for licence holders is £30 for under 15s and £40 for 15 year olds and over.

Still a few spaces left for our open practice session on Sunday 26th March.
Entries so far: Alec Gooch, Marc Bonner, Keith Cornell, Russell Manville, Tim Mount, Frank Iszard, George Prinos, Aston Knott, Dan Simmons, Rhys Laker, Sebastian Hickmott, Alfie Shipp, Finley Theobald, Albie South, Oscar South, Harrison Rogers, Chris Pullen.

Even more spaces available for our May 17th open practice.
Bookings so far: Jamis Kinnaird, Alec Gooch, Marc Bonner, Keith Cornell, Russell Manville, George Prinos, Aston Knott, Dan Simmons, Rhys Laker, Darren Hartman, Will Cooper.

HG aerospace have a youth only practice/training session at Lydd on Saturday 30th May. Riders must be under 15 years of age. Michael Gray is moving forward with his youth policy and will be arranging race meetings for young and not so young through the summer months.

Malcolm and Angie

Dear All,
Our event for this Sunday is fully booked.
This will be our first open practice under the NORA affiliation so please have your licence or membership with you. Sign on in the club room, between 11am and 12 noon. If you haven't either then contact NORA on nora92.com and fill in the online form for a one event practice permit. Alternatively phone them on 08453 880992. This will prevent you having to fill in a day licence form every time you come to Lydd. There will be a £2 fee for this.
We are keeping a regular check on the weather but we do not see too much rain leading up to Sunday at the moment.
We have 22 bookings and hope all turn up. We ask riders to double up at busy times preferably with someone of equal or near equal ability. NORA rules state under 15s must not be out on track at the same time as an over 15 and strictly no racing.
Practice from 12 noon til 5pm. Engine warm up at 11.50am.
Cash please when signing on. £30 for under 15s and £40 for 15 year olds and over. If you would like to support the club bring an extra tenner and treat yourself to a beanie (if it's cold) or a baseball cap (to shade the sun). There will also be a number of tee shirts of various sizes in black or white. A few Lydd speedway coffee mugs also available.
After this Sunday , March 29th, the next Lydd event is Saturday April 18th when "try speedway" will be running another practice/training day. Book with Tony Gaul for this.
Two further open practice sessions:

Sunday 26th April. 12 noon til 5pm.
Sunday 17th May. 12 noon til 5pm.
We are now taking bookings for the above practice sessions.
Minimum of 15 bookings and a maximum of 22 to make sessions viable.
Book by return e mail or phone/text 07870 471770.
We will announce youth/amateur race meeting dates shortly.
Regards,
Malcolm and Angie

2026 Annual Licence Organiser Info Request Latest News

12/03/2026

Dear All,
Great start to the Lydd season under the NORA flagship.
Try speedway attracted 31 riders for their first session at the track.
Their next one will be on Saturday 18th April from 11.30am til 3.30pm.
Book your place with Tony Gaul.
There were a few issues with the track surface, but I expect all tracks are having problems after the amount of rain we've had recently.
We will be at the track within the next few days getting the surface levelled for the next practice which is on Sunday 29th March.
We are now full booked for this session. We have booked in 22 riders as we normally get 2 cancellations. Any further bookings will be held as reserves until someone pulls out. We feel this is enough riders per session for the venue to enable everyone to get 5 or 6 rides. We run from 12 noon til 5pm with grading and watering if required approximately every hour on the hour. £40 adults and £30 under 15s.
Pease have your NORA licence or permit with you.
Riders booked in are: Jamie Kinnaird, Alec Gooch, Rhys Laker, Keith Cornell, Martin Tappenden, Sebastian Hickmott, Graham Wilson, Mark Anderson, George Prinos, Ian Clark, Albie South, Patrick Holford, Dan Owen, Russell Manville, Dan Simmons, Steve Raynor, Tresham Dominic, Graham Knowler, Archie Strong, Butch Jenner, Vinnie Ford, Liam Laker.
If any rider listed above can't make it let us know asap. If we can find a replacement we won't charge a £10 penalty on your next visit.
Regards,
Malcolm and Angie

06/03/2026

Dear All,
Welcome to the 2026 season at Lydd Speedway.
Not only will it be our first season affiliated to NORA, (National Off Road Association), in September it will be 30 years since the first race meeting was held there. We will be planning a special event for the occasion.
To start the season we have Tony Gaul and Paul Hurry with a "try speedway" practice/training session this Saturday March 7th.
The session will run from 11.30am until 3.30pm.
Please do not turn up and expect to ride if you have not booked in with Tony.
The first planned open practice will be on Sunday 29th March from 12 noon til 5pm weather permitting. We will be restricting the number of bookings to 20 so book early to save disappointment. Book in the same way by return e mail or phone/text 07870 471770.
Being with NORA comes at a cost to cover insurance and medical cover so we will have to ask you for an extra £10 per rider. So it will be £40 for adults and £30 for under 15s. An extra £6 for a day licence but remember you will not be insured once you are on your bike. You need to take out a season licence plus personal insurance to be covered whilst riding. It will still be cash on the day for the time being but once you have booked in you will be asked to pay a £10 penalty the next time you attend Lydd if you do not turn up on the day for any reason. This is to cover the costs we have had to pay to put the event on.
We apologise in advance for the state of the farm track, especially from the main road to the farm buildings. The amount of rain has caused extra damage but the landowner has said the potholes will be filled in once the puddles have dried out, hopefully before March 29th.
So for Saturday if you are coming please drive slowly and carefully so as not to cause any damage to your vehicles.
Regards,
Malcolm and Angie
