About Cantabile Choir, Lurgan
Cantabile is a vibrant, inclusive, and cross-community SATB choir based in Lurgan, Co. Armagh, under the dynamic leadership of musical director Kerrie Patterson. Since its founding in 2007, Cantabile has grown into a beloved musical institution, known not only for its rich, harmonious sound but also for its generous spirit. Rehearsing weekly in the welcoming surround
ings of the Ashburn Hotel, the choir brings together voices of all backgrounds in a shared love of music. Cantabile operates as a non-profit organization, with 100% of concert proceeds donated to carefully chosen charities. To date, the choir has raised an extraordinary £100,000+ for local and national causes — including over £10,000 in the 2024–2025 year alone. Renowned for their versatility and passion, Cantabile has earned numerous accolades in competitions and performed in prestigious venues, including the iconic Titanic Belfast. The choir had the distinct honour of premiering a specially composed piece by the world-renowned pianist and composer Barry Douglas, from The Preaching of the Swallow, part of the celebrated Five Fables series. Cantabile has also shared the stage with celebrated performers such as Dana and internationally acclaimed flautist Eimear McGeown, consistently championing local talent and creating unforgettable musical experiences for audiences. In line with this commitment to nurturing young voices, Junior Cantabile was established to inspire and develop the next generation of singers — giving children the opportunity to grow musically and perform alongside a professional ensemble. Beyond the concert stage, Cantabile brings the healing power of music to residential homes and hospitals, spreading joy, comfort, and connection through song. The choir’s continued success and charitable impact would not be possible without the invaluable support of their sponsors: the Ashburn Hotel, Tony and Aileen McMullan of Patton Print, and Jo-Ann Smyth of Evolution Graphic Design. Their generosity allows Cantabile to continue giving back to the community through every note sung. A special thanks also goes to the choir’s gifted accompanist, Brian Greene, whose talent elevates every performance. Cantabile is immensely proud of the funds raised and the lives touched — all through the power of music. Some of the charities supported by Cantabile include:
