What a fantastic day of creativity and connection at Messums East!
Thanks to Lynne Heaton from Messums Studios for leading a beautiful Wet Felting Workshop in partnership with our friends at last Sunday.
We welcomed 22 enthusiastic participants, with a large waiting list eager to join - a wonderful sign of how much creative energy is growing here in Lowestoft. The session was filled with colour, conversation, and hands-on making, as everyone explored the tactile, calming process of felting and created their own unique pieces.
We’re so grateful to the team and volunteers at for their continued support in hosting and helping us deliver these community workshops whilst development of the Old Post Office picks up pace.
Given the brilliant response, we’re looking to schedule another Felting session in the new year. In the meantime, keep your eyes peeled for our two upcoming workshops in November and one in December - more chances to get creative and connect.
Thank you to everyone who joined us - it’s inspiring to see people experiencing the joy of making and the power of creativity to bring people together.

Today, Sammy Hawker, our inaugural resident artist at Messums East, engaged with art students at East Coast College, Lowestoft, sharing her practice and demonstrating her chromatograph technique. The session sparked an inspiring and thought-provoking exchange of ideas, reflecting the essence of our mission to foster creativity and connection.
Over the past few weeks, Sammy has been immersed in Lowestoft as part of our ongoing development at the Old Post Office, soon to be transformed into Messums East. This residency is made possible through the generous support of The Ian Potter Cultural Trust, The Corridor Project (Australia), and our wider network of partners.
Her residency aligns with the forthcoming exhibition GHOSTS [& Monsters] , opening 11th October.
Looking ahead this marks the exciting starting point of a residency programme in the town aimed at fostering international, national, and regional artistic collaborations.
