Crypt

A series of three images inspired by and based on Anthony Gormley’s Symphony II in the crypt of Wi******er Cathedral.
I am captivated by the idea of the statue that stands motionless throughout the flooding and draining cycle of the crypt. It is designed so that the water syphons up the body into the cupped hands. Close inspection of photographs that I took revealed that although it appears to be one piece, it is actually several plates.
The images represent:
1) the joins where the plates meet;
2) the separate plates;
3) the whole figure.

Metamorphosis of Identity

This series was inspired by an interview of a nurse on tv during the early days of the Covid 19 pandemic. She had just come off shift and her face was puffy and marked from hours of wearing PPE. Earlier in the report there had been images of doctors and nurses all wearing PPE. There were no distinguishing features that I could see and I realised that individuality disappeared with each layer of protection they put on.
