This week at The Duchess Theatre we take a trip down the yellow brick road with The Kaleidoscope Players and their production of The Wizard of Oz. Running from Thursday through until Saturday evening ( including Saturday matinee performance). Tickets still available for all performances but limited for some.

The Wizard of Oz musical follows Dorothy Gale, a Kansas farm girl swept away by a tornado to the magical Land of Oz, where she must follow the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City to find the Wizard to help her get home, meeting a Scarecrow, Tin Woodsman, and Cowardly Lion who join her seeking brains, a heart, and courage, all while evading the Wicked Witch of the West, who wants Dorothy's magical ruby slippers, ultimately learning there's "no place like home".

This week at The Duchess Theatre we have KTCo advanced youth group with their production of Les Miserables (School Edition). Running from Tuesday through to Saturday with Wednesday & Saturday matinee performances. Join the waiting lists if you want tickets for this one.

Victor Hugo’s epic tale comes to life in Les Misérables, a sweeping story of love, sacrifice, justice, and redemption set against the backdrop of 19th-century France. The musical follows Jean Valjean, a former convict seeking a new life, relentlessly pursued by Inspector Javert, a man bound by law and duty. Along the way, their lives intertwine with unforgettable characters: the tragic Fantine, the courageous Cosette, the fiery Marius, the brave Éponine, and the revolutionary students who fight for freedom on the barricades.

With an iconic score including “I Dreamed a Dream,” “On My Own,” “Do You Hear the People Sing?” and “One Day More,” Les Misérables is a powerful theatrical experience that has moved audiences around the world for decades.

At its heart, the story is about resilience, compassion, and the fight for justice in the face of impossible odds. Back on stage this week at The Duchess Theatre we have The Erewash Musical Society Youth Group (EMU’s) with their very own production of “Tainted Love” running from Thursday to Saturday evening, includes matinee performance too. Tickets still available but limited for some performances.

Tainted Love An 80s Musical is a funny, heartfelt coming-of-age story set to a soundtrack of iconic 1980s hits. Following a family rebuilding their lives after a painful breakup, the show explores teenage rebellion, first love, bullying, and the struggle to be heard. A vibrant, emotional celebration of family, resilience, and growing up when love gets complicated.

Coming up this week at The Duchess Theatre we have the Leo’s youth group with their production of “The Addams Family.

The Addams Family School Edition is a comical feast that celebrates the wackiness hiding inside every family. In this original musical story, Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, intelligent young man from a perfectly respectable family. There’s just one problem: her parents have never met him!

To make matters worse, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him to keep her secret from her mother. For the first time ever, Gomez Addams must do the unthinkable, hide the truth from his beloved Morticia. Follow Alice down the rabbit hole, chase White Rabbits, converse with Cheshire Cats and join the Mad Hatter and the March Hare for tea. Rescue the White Queen and the Tweedle’s from their magical mishaps and face off in a croquet game against the Horrid Queen of Hearts and attend the trial of the missing tarts can we save the day before everyone loses their heads as well as their minds?

Keen to boost his flagging career, fading Hollywood action hero Jefferson Steele arrives in England to play King Lear in Stratford – only to find that this is not the birthplace of the Bard, but a sleepy Suffolk village. And instead of Kenneth Branagh and Dame Judi Dench, the cast are a bunch of amateurs trying to save their theatre from developers. Jefferson’s monstrous ego, vanity and insecurity are tested to the limit by the enthusiastic am-dram thespians. As acting worlds collide and Jefferson’s career implodes, he discovers some truths about himself – along with his inner Lear!
