Subconscious thoughts aren’t always easy to ignore; they often convey messages that aren’t immediately clear. Sometimes they resonate with me while others don’t. However exploring my subconscious can be enjoyable and lead to surreal creations. Our minds generate ideas for painting people we encounter daily. For example, I imagined a toy couple on a bed as the perfect depiction of a wedding scene. The painted couple shows emotional differences between the men and women, mirroring the similar feelings of unhappiness and dissatisfaction we experience. Their facial expression on their first wedding night conveys sadness rather than happiness. While the painting is ambiguous and open to interpretation, it suggests a connection between the couple despite their sadness and unhappiness.

African people have always been drawn to their culture and traditions, and working with African people at the museum has allowed me to learn more about them. This painting captures the vibrant, high-energy spirit of the Notting Hill Carnival. The figures are dressed in elaborate feathered headdresses and colourful costumes, typical of Caribbean carnival traditions. This festival inspired me to use bold brushstrokes and strong contrasts to emphasise movement, rhythm, and the closeness of the crowd.

Watching people is like a kind of getaway from the negative energy and thoughts that bombard my mind.
Sometimes, watching people on the streets is like entering a cinema where different people commute to reach their destinations, whether it's work or life events. Some rush while others take short steps, some furious, and a few happy faces and sad ones. Amidst all this hustle and bustle, there are beggars and homeless people waiting for their daily fortune. As I watched people move, I noticed a few subjects that caught my eye. There were mothers pushing buggies, a beggar in a corner asking for spare change, and people holding umbrellas in the rain, covering their faces in some of those huge umbrellas made them look like faceless figures moving down the road. In that wet weather I could only see the slow movements of their feet which prevented them from sliding on wet floors. These are just a few of the many subjects that motivated me to paint.

The Procession of Saints, known locally as Santachem Pursanv, is a unique and significant religious event held annually at St. Andrew's Church in Goa Velha,
India. It is one of the only such processions held anywhere in the world outside of Rome. The solemn religious occasion is also accompanied by a vibrant fair on the road outside the church, with stalls selling snacks, sweets, toys and other goods, creating a festive atmosphere. As each statue emerges from the church, a priest narrates the life story of the saint. Where devotees from all over Goa pay a visit and often walk under the passing palanquin as a way to seek blessings and penance for their sins. The painting is based on a photograph I took during the procession, which provides a glimpse of the scene.
