Mic appreciation post 🎙️
Want to try out a new sound? Here’s some of our studio microphones, all available on request!
Starting off strong with the Neumann U87. This leading industry vocal mic has been a studio legend since the 60s and features in each of our studio rooms 👏🏻
Next up our Neumann KM86i pair, a vintage classic! These are a popular choice for stereo recording, and we love to use them with our Kawai K300 Upright Piano in Studio A 🎹
Another top pair, the Neumann KM184’s. Known for being extremely detailed, these guys are a perfect match for acoustic guitar. They live in our Studio D alongside our Gibson J45!
Our latest and favourite of the bunch! The Sony C-800G. This mic is built for vocals, and became legendary in the 90s and 2000s in the hip-hop and R&B scene. Famously loved by Dre. Dre, Rihanna and Mariah Carey 🎤
We can’t get enough of this!
Another studio favourite.. the Neumann U67.
This mic is described as the sound of the 60s, famously loved by The Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney! This mic is a great all rounder and lives in our flagship room Studio A.
Continuing on with our Neumann U47 FET, loved by drums! 🥁 This mic is a classic choice for a kick drum and also popular with bass amps, guitar amps and vocals.
This has been used on some serious records by Foo Fighters and Kings of Leon!
Moving onto our Vintage Sennheizer MD 421, again dating back to the 60s! This mic is a staple on drums, guitar amps, bass, brass and vocals, but most iconically toms!
Next up is the AEA r88, a stereo ribbon mic. If you can’t tell already, we love drums. And this mic is the perfect match for drum kit! We often use it on string ensembles too in our lovely Studio A 🎻
Last but certainly not least, our Vintage Neumann U87 from 1979. Almost half a century old. It’s no wonder our engineers love using this one, its character shaped by decades of recording history!
