In the hush between heartbeats, where candlelight forgets to flicker and time decides to wait outside the door…
There you are—head tilted back like you're offering the night itself a secret it’s been begging to hear. Eyes closed not from shyness, but from the kind of trust that says: I know exactly where your mouth will land, and I’m already home when it does.
Your lips part just enough to let a sigh escape, that soft sound only I’m allowed to catch. It tastes like surrender wrapped in velvet. My hand at the small of your back isn’t holding you steady—it’s remembering every curve it has already mapped in darkness, in daylight, in half-dreams at 4 a.m.
The fabric of your dress clings like it’s jealous of how close I am, like it wants to be the one rising and falling with your breath. But it can’t. That rhythm belongs to us. To the way my thumb traces the chain at your throat, to the way your fingers curl into my shirt as if letting go might unravel the entire universe.
This kiss isn’t the beginning.
It isn’t the end.
It’s the comma we keep placing between every sentence we’ve ever whispered—
prolonging the story because neither of us wants the period yet.
The room smells of amber, red wine we forgot to finish, and the faint salt of skin that knows it’s about to be worshipped again. Shadows pool in the hollow of your collarbone like spilled ink; I want to write promises there with my mouth until the candles burn out and we’re only lit by whatever fire we carry between us.
You arch just a fraction—enough to remind me that gravity has nothing on the pull you have. My other hand finds yours, fingers threading tight, because even in this moment of skin-on-skin delirium, I need the anchor of your pulse answering mine.
We don’t speak.
We don’t need to.
Every exhale is dialogue.
Every shiver is a full paragraph.
Every place my lips brush next is a vow rewritten in Braille only lovers can read.
If the world ended tonight, it would find us exactly like this:
tangled in low light,
your throat bared to my mercy,
my name caught somewhere between your lips and a moan you haven’t let out yet,
and both of us quietly, fiercely agreeing that forever can start in the next breath…
or the one after that…
or the hundred thousand after that.
Because time isn’t running out.
It’s slowing down just to watch us burn a little brighter.
You. Me. This stolen inch between mouths.
The only holy place I’ve ever believed in.
