Trippy hand lettering art and record-related rambles

Another day well spent painting an expanse of boards with some giant trippy hand lettering and a bunch of v fun trippy shapes. Absolutely stoked with this.

Usually I plan at least some element of a big piece before I go paint it, but this one I literally just freehanded onto the wall as I went, no plan, just following the muse, and boy did she take me to a GOOD place!

Was tricky to capture in a photo due to the length, so swipe to see a video showing the whole thing.

Once again I very much loved getting to chat to everyone walking past, if you were one of the people who said hello or said nice things, thank you so much! I really do think painting in public is so much fun.

SEIZE YOUR SPACE 💙💚🧡

Cracking day down in Hove yesterday with AROE. who was painting a whole bunch of letters and kindly invited me to fill one with my trippy art.

I am so obsessed with these colours, and I’ve been thinking a lot about the phrase ‘Seize your space’ lately so I knew it had to go on here. It is always so nice seeing the artistic visions from in my head manifesting big like this. It was also really nice stood out there all day chatting to people while I painted.

I’ve been wanting to paint something public for ages so I’m really glad I got to do this, and thanks again to AROE. for having me down. He has filled in all the other letters himself with an incredible array of artwork, so if you’re down on the south coast I’d definitely go check it out. It spells out WE LOVE HOVE ACTUALLY which of course couldn’t be more fitting. Swipe to the end for a video showing the whole thing from across the road.

They’re here! Four brand new Thirteen Scorpios hand lettered birthday card designs, pulled from my brain onto paper, and now finally available in my online shop, ready for you to send to the one you love.

Pick from trippy, drippy, distorted, or magic. All equally as excellent if you ask me.

I also offer a card writing service totally free so if you want me to send the card directly to its recipient just gimme a heads up in the notes when you order and I’ll make it happen.

Well proud of these.

Remember that trip I made to Stockholm earlier this year? Here’s what I was up to: painting two murals in the lobby of Ruby Hotels by IHG Stockholm 💙

Thanks to the incredible team at Ruby Frida for inviting me out there to create my hand lettering art in such a beautiful space. They were such a dream client to work with, from concept to brief and even during the ex*****on.

When I was there painting the hotel itself hadn’t actually opened yet, so swipe through to see two pics where you can see it in situ in the finished hotel. Talk about dreamy!

All set up down at Portofcool with a lovely group of artists and makers, while some top notch bands and DJs do their thing. Well good.

Oh and yes those are the new greeting card designs that I was meant to put on my website yesterday but forgot, whoops. Incoming online soon, promise. Everything else should already be on there.

If you’ve been here since the start you’ll have seen the whole hand lettering journey, and it’s a bit surreal to realise that my daily habit of making art has led me here.

Been busy this past month working on new greeting card designs which I will be sharing properly tomorrow, and popping them on the website too. Also they’ll be making their IRL debut at Portofcool this Saturday cos I’ve got a stall there. All v exciting, I’m sure you’ll agree.

Next step: getting these new cards into physical shops too. Watch out Worthing (and Brighton, and further afield) indies, the trippy hand lettering is coming…

If you’d have told me in 2020 that this “side quest” account would turn into a business, I wouldn’t have believed you. And this reel only shows a small fraction of what I’ve done!

It still blows my mind that I get commissioned to make lettering artwork for other people’s bands and brands and events, and even put it on their walls. AND who knew that my record obsession would lead me to DJing all over the place? AND that I’d even be performing my own music?

There’s always been a loud voice in my head that says “what if you fail?”. But now I want to say: what if I succeed? What if I did more music, more art, more murals, more lettering, spent more time immersed in the things that light up my soul? What then? Just imagine where I might be in another 6 years time!

I was always told growing up that a creative career wasn’t a real career, that it was a waste of my academic brain, or that the only jobs for creatives were in teaching. I’m glad I finally learned that isn’t true.

To those of you who have been here since the start: thank you. And to everyone who’s joined along the way, thank you too. I don’t know what comes next but I’m excited to find out.

Well if you wanted honesty that’s all you had to say…

Some thoughts on being a person who wears many hats, figuratively speaking, and straddles many interests and subcultures. I spent decades trying to squish down the bits of me that weren’t “acceptable”, but my life genuinely got exponentially better once I packed that in and started just showing up as myself in every scenario.

Also Skunk Anansie were supporting MCR last night, and despite listening to these bands for 27 and 24 years respectively, I’d never seen either live so as you can imagine I cried multiple times throughout the evening.

Anyway, be who you are, wherever possible, as much as possible. I know I’m gonna carry on doing that.
