*Steven Spielberg has donated $25,000 to James Van Der Beek's family (but has stated he will MAKE MORE to support his children's education).
A fundraiser has just started to support the late actor's family. Among the many people who have donated is the renowned director, whom Dawson repeatedly cited as his absolute idol in Dawson's Creek.
At the same time, American actress Zoe Saldana has decided to contribute a MONTHLY DONATION of $2,500, a support that will not end with this fundraiser but will continue over time. Talent manager and investor Guy Oseary and director Jon M. Chu have also joined the effort, donating approximately $10,000 each to support the family. The money raised will be used by the family to cover the cost of their home and their children's education, providing them with some stability after a very difficult period that saw all their financial resources drained and the subsequent loss of their beloved husband and father.
Anonymous donations have been numerous, some exceeding Spielberg's target. Among the largest and most signed donations so far is $50,000 from an American brand specializing in men's skincare. In just over two days, the amount raised has surpassed the $2 million mark.
A public fundraiser was already held on September 22, 2025, in New York during the reunion of the cast, director, and producers. Proceeds were donated to the family and the F Cancer cancer research institute.
