Little Angel Theatre (LAT) has used puppetry to create and share inspiring stories since opening its doors in 1961; igniting the imaginations of the youngest minds. Founded in 1961 by John Wright we create shows celebrating puppetry that also travel nationally and internationally as well as hosting visiting shows. Next to the theatre stands the workshop where all the puppets are lovingly made by our puppet makers for our shows.

This week for our blog, artistic director Samantha Lane engaged with the critical conversation around social media bans for young people, in response to a LinkedIn post written by creative and cultural producer Lily Einhorn. Her piece sheds light on the nuances of how children consume online content, teasing out some of the complications of a blanket ban.

It's a fascinating read, live on our website now!

⚒️ Our season of marionette making has begun! 🪚

Introducing our fabulous trainee marionette carvers: Malika, Lily and Jess. These three makers will be training in our design workshop learning the traditional craft of marionette carving.

They will will play a key role in designing and making the puppets and scenography for this summer’s landmark marionette show ‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.’ Malika and Jess’s roles have been supported by National Lottery Heritage Fund and Lily has joined from Creative Opps.

Before long, these blocks of wood will become characters in our upcoming show! We'll be sharing behind the scenes images throughout the process!

Our Recent Suitcase Theatre Tour

🧳 The amazing cast of Bobbin's Big Adventure are just about to complete a tour of the East Midlands, with plans to travel to more prisons across the UK in the future, as a result of Big Give and other independent funding!

🎨 The show, which follows the quest of the medieval knight Bobbin, is performed at prison family visit days. After watching the show, there is a craft workshop where children can make their own shield puppet, inspired by Bobbin's journey of self discovery.

💛 Thank you to everyone who has donated to support this critical work.

📖 In recognition that 2026 has been named the National Year of Reading, this week’s blog post explores a vital question: how successful are theatre adaptations at encouraging reading and supporting young people’s development?

✒️ Our Artistic Director interrogates the impact of bringing books to the stage, reflecting on the adaptation process, accompanying workshops, and whether theatre can play a meaningful role in fostering a lifelong connection with reading in early years audiences.
