Asked for WHAT?! 🎀👀

When LoveShackFancy reached out and asked me to create a GIANT pink satin bow for their London store opening…

I mean… come on. 😭🎀

Pink. Satin. Oversized.

Basically every girl’s dream brief.

But creating something this big is very different from tying a normal bow. It had to have the right shape, the right fullness and still give that soft, romantic LoveShackFancy look once it was installed.

So now I had to work out how I was actually going to make it… 👀

And trust me, getting from a roll of pink satin to the finished giant bow was a journey.

Welcome to another episode of Behind the Drapes with Malvia. 🎀

After all that chaos… here she is. 💚✨

If you’ve been following Behind the Drapes, you’ve seen what it actually took to get here.

The missing spigots. 😭
The DJ and I fighting for the same bit of space.
The last-minute problem-solving.
And plenty of “right… what are we doing now?” moments.

But THIS was the finished look.

Rich emerald green venue draping, layered with black and emerald balloon décor, creating a bold photo backdrop for this London influencer party.

And this is why I always show the process.

A finished photograph can make event styling look effortless.

Behind it is usually a completely different story. 😂

Swipe through and have a proper look at the final setup. 👉🏾

Now you’ve seen the whole journey… was it worth the stress? 👀

This one tested me. 😭

Last-minute changes. Setup pressure. Missing equipment. Sharing space with other suppliers. And a few problems I definitely didn’t plan for.

But then you step back and finally see it.

The emerald green venue draping is up.
The black and emerald balloon décor is finished.
The photo area is ready.
And that empty event space from the beginning looks completely different.

This is the bit that makes all the running around worth it.

From an empty London venue to a fully styled influencer party — you’ve seen what happened behind the drapes…

So tell me: was the final transformation worth the chaos? 👀

WHOSE SPACE IS THIS?! 😭

Part 4 of Behind the Drapes with Malvia and just when I thought we were getting somewhere… another problem.

I’m setting up the draped photo backdrop and balloon garland for this London influencer party, and the DJ starts bringing his speakers and sound equipment into the exact same space I need. 😂

Now listen… I know he has a job to do.

But so do I.

And there definitely wasn’t enough room for his sound system AND my balloon installation.

So somebody had to say something.

Guess who? 🙋🏾‍♀️😂

This is the reality of event setup in London. You’re often working alongside DJs, caterers, production teams and other suppliers, all trying to get ready at the same time.

Sometimes you’ve just got to communicate, compromise and figure it out.

But I wasn’t giving up my space that easily. 😂

Did I manage to get him to move? 👀

I nearly lost all my marbles. 😭

So remember my unpaid helper, aka Ryan?

I’m on site setting up the pipe and drape backdrop for this London influencer party, I go through the bag looking for my spigots…

Nothing.

I check again.

Still nothing. 😭

At this point I’m straight on the blower.

“Ryan… WHERE are my spigots?!”

Turns out my lovely unpaid helper hadn’t given me the right ones to install the pipe and drape.

Now I’ve got a backdrop to build, a client expecting a finished setup and I’m standing there without one of the bits I actually need.

This is the side of event styling and venue draping you don’t normally see.

Things go wrong.

Things get forgotten.

And sometimes your unpaid helper nearly gets sacked from a job he doesn’t even get paid for. 😂

But there was still one small problem…

How was I actually going to get this backdrop up? 👀

To be continued.

.can had ONE job… 😭

Part 2 of our behind-the-scenes London influencer party draping setup, and apparently I’ve discovered the downside of having an unpaid helper. 😂

We’re on site, the custom drapes are ready, the backdrop is going up and everything’s moving nicely…

Until I realise Ryan hasn’t packed the spigots for the backdrop system.

Now, if you work in events, you already know, one tiny missing piece can suddenly become a VERY big problem.

And when you’ve got a backdrop to finish before the client arrives, standing there blaming each other isn’t going to get it built. 😂

So now we need a solution.

And what happened next…?

I’ll show you in Part 3. 👀

You only see the finished room… 👀

But this is what happens before all the photos, guests and influencer content.

For this London influencer party, we were brought in to transform this side of the venue using custom made backdrop draping, creating a completely different look and feel for the event.

And this is the bit I want to show more of.

The loading. The building. The adjusting. The problem-solving. And occasionally standing back thinking, “Yeah… that needs moving.” 😂

Because event draping isn’t simply hanging fabric. The height, fullness, positioning and finish all affect how the final room looks.

So rather than only showing you the polished reveal, I’m taking you behind the scenes of how we actually get there.

And wait until you see what this room looks like when we’re finished. 👀

So… was it worth it? 👀

A last-minute call.
Drapes gathered at short notice.
One problem I definitely hadn’t accounted for.
And yes… four hours of ironing. 😭

But this was the end result.

Bespoke room-divider draping at The Savoy London, installed to create separation within the space while still keeping everything clean and elegant.

This is the side of event styling and venue draping people don’t always see. Sometimes you’re given weeks to prepare. Sometimes you get the call and have to figure it out.

And somehow, those are often the jobs that teach you the most.

So yes… I’d say it was worth it.

But I thought this was going to be the highlight of my week.

I was wrong. 👀

Ladies… back me up on this! 😂

I asked .can to fold the drapes.

He decided to roll them instead.

Fast forward to setup day…

We spent four hours ironing every single panel before we could install them. 😩

Now, to be fair, he was trying to help… but sometimes “help” creates even more work!

The funny thing is, nobody at the event will ever know how much effort goes into getting those perfectly smooth, luxury drapes. They’ll just see the finished result.

And honestly… that’s exactly how it should be.

So, ladies…

Have you ever asked your partner to do something one way… and they confidently did the complete opposite? 😂👇

Or am I on my own with this one?

Sometimes the calls you get at the last minute become the ones you remember most.

This was a last-minute request to install room divider draping at The Savoy London.

The brief sounded straightforward, but once we arrived, there was one thing I hadn’t accounted for.

That’s the reality of working in live events.

No two venues are the same, and no two setups ever go exactly to plan.

The difference isn’t avoiding challenges. It’s knowing how to adapt without compromising the final result.

Whether we’re installing luxury venue draping, creating room dividers for corporate events, or transforming a wedding venue, flexibility is just as important as creativity.

Every project teaches you something new, and this one certainly did.

Have you ever walked into a situation thinking, “This will be easy,” only to discover it wasn’t?

I’d love to hear your story below.
