It’s about to get interesting.

We’re in the corridor at the InterContinental O2, waiting to get in and set up for the Women in Data Awards after party.

Now listen… it’s called an after party for a reason.

The main event is polished. Structured. Composed.
But this part?

This is where people loosen up.

Where the heels come off.
Where the energy shifts.
Where people actually enjoy the space you’ve created.

I already know the vibe is about to change… and I’m ready for it.

Be honest… are you the calm one at events, or the one bringing the energy?

In his own words.

At the end of it all, he turned to me and said thank you.

Not just for the decorations.
Not just for helping him pull it off.

But for showing up.

Hearing your son recommend you, not as his mum, but as someone who does this well… that hits differently.

This started as me supporting him.
It ended with him acknowledging what I’ve built.

Full circle.

Sometimes the real reward isn’t the setup.
It’s being seen.

Just one more thing.

You know that moment when everything looks ready… but you still step back and scan the room?

Adjust a balloon.
Straighten a sign.
Check the lighting one more time.

It’s never about doing more.
It’s about making sure the feeling is right.

The big gestures get the attention.
But it’s the small details that make the moment land.

And right now… we’re almost there.

Would you double-check everything, or would you leave it and hope for the best?

27/02/2026

This almost ruined everything.

He had already told me the plan.

Restaurant first.
Then back to the room to chill and watch a film together.

Simple. Thoughtful. His idea.

The TV worked… it just wouldn’t connect to his phone. And that’s where the whole second part of the plan was.

You could feel the moment wobble slightly.

But instead of letting it throw everything off, we adjusted.

The “Will you be my girlfriend?” sign that was meant for the window went straight onto the blank screen. And somehow, it became the highlight.

It wasn’t what he planned.
But it worked.

Sometimes the night doesn’t follow the script.
And sometimes that makes it better.

Have you ever had to pivot a plan last minute?

26/02/2026

Is this boujee behaviour?

I’m pumping balloons for the ceiling and he specifically says, “Mum, not latex. Foil.”

Foil.

Not because of allergies.
Not because of safety.
Just preference.

Since when are we this refined?

I had to laugh. The attention to detail. The standards. The specifics.

But honestly, I kind of respect it.

Boy mums… tell me the truth.
Are your sons this particular too? Or is mine just extra?

25/02/2026

It went quiet.

Too quiet.

So we went looking… and found him in the bathroom, fully focused, writing in his Valentine’s Day card like it was a final exam.

He was so engrossed he didn’t even realise we were filming him.

Until he did.

It was too funny .
“Mind games!” he said.😆🧠🕹️

But honestly, watching him take his time, choosing his words carefully… that part got me.🥰

Tell me, was we wrong for this?

24/02/2026

This starts at home.

Watching my son be intentional, thoughtful, and actually put effort into how he shows up… made me proud.

Not because he’s perfect.
But because he’s aware.

How boys treat women doesn’t just appear out of nowhere.
They watch how you speak.
How you carry yourself.
What you tolerate.
What you model.

Respect. Effort. Consideration.
Those things are learned long before Valentine’s Day.

I’m not saying mums control everything.
But I do believe what they see at home shapes how they move in the world.

Do you think this starts at home… or do they figure it out later?

24/02/2026

This was a full circle moment.

We were standing in the room, talking through how I was going to decorate it.

And he said, so calmly,
“I trust you. You do this for a living.”

Not Mum.
Not “just help me.”
But trust.

There’s something powerful about your child recognising what you’ve built.
Seeing you not only as the person who raised them, but as someone capable. Skilled. Established.

I’ve spent years creating spaces for other people’s moments.

And now here I am, creating one for him… and he believes in my vision.

That landed deeper than he probably knows.

Tell me… have you ever had a moment where someone saw you differently?

24/02/2026

That face… oh no.😟

We walked into the room.
Everything looked perfect.
The vibe was right.

And then I remembered.

I forgot the champagne he ordered.

The way his face changed? Immediate.
Not dramatic. Just that quiet, disappointed look that says, “Mum…”

I felt it in my chest.

It’s funny how quickly a moment can shift over one small detail.
You plan, you prepare, you try to get everything right… and still.

Tell me honestly, have you ever forgotten the one thing that actually mattered?

23/02/2026

Valentine’s Day… according to my son.

I asked him how it makes him feel.

He said, “It hurts my pockets.”

No poetry.
No deep reflection.
Just financial stress.

I had to laugh.

Because this is the part no one talks about.
When they grow up, start dating properly, and suddenly realise romance comes with receipts.

It’s his first real Valentine’s as an adult.
And apparently, love is expensive.

Be honest… is he wrong though?
