A couple of years ago, we ran a pottery course just for men. It was not only successful, but genuinely such a lovely experience: local people coming together on a Tuesday evening for six weeks, learning something new, switching off, and enjoying the quiet focus of working with clay.

So, if you still haven’t figured out what to give your dad or your partner this Father’s Day, this might be something they will truly treasure.

We have new courses coming up, as well as taster sessions where you can try the potter’s wheel together as a family.

You can find all our courses and sessions through the link in our bio.

Beginner Wheel Throwing Course - limited places available so book soon, link in BIO
2 July - 20 August, every Thursday

Over eight weeks, participants work steadily with the same material, tools, and techniques, allowing skills to develop at a natural pace. Sessions revisit the foundations of wheel throwing — clay preparation, centring, opening, and forming — while gradually building confidence, control, and consistency.

Teaching is structured, calm, and responsive. Participants are supported to work attentively, to learn from mistakes, and to understand how small adjustments over time lead to stronger forms.

This course suits beginners who want a solid foundation, as well as those returning to the wheel who wish to deepen their practice.

Public courses at Colour and Clay help sustain affordable long-term mentoring and studio access for neurodivergent adults committed to their creative practice.

Our Open Studio is coming up on the 27 of June where artworks from our Inclusive classes will play a major part ❤️

The Inclusive sessions are shaped by patience, clarity, and a sensitivity to individual pace.
Working with clay offers a unique combination of structure and openness — allowing participants to engage through touch, repetition, and focus, while gradually building confidence and familiarity with the material.
Rather than imposing a fixed outcome, the emphasis is placed on the process itself, and on creating a space where each participant can engage in a way that feels comfortable and meaningful.

Exciting hand building workshops are coming in June 😎

25 June & 2 July Botanical Imprint workshop

In the first session, we work with soft slabs of clay, using leaves and botanical elements to create delicate imprints and subtle surface compositions. The process is simple and tactile, allowing the material and the natural forms to guide the outcome. Pieces are shaped into small bowls or plates using gentle moulds, ensuring a balanced and refined result. Between sessions, the work is carefully dried and fired in the kiln. In the second session, we return to add colour. Using underglazes, we highlight textures, build soft layers, and bring out the detail captured in the clay. Each piece is then glazed and fired for a final time. No previous experience is needed. The focus is on slowing down, observing closely, and working with intention. Each participant will create up to two pieces, with one selected for glazing and final firing.
