The Gunners Open Mic

The Gunners Open Mic Famous First Words is an open mic with a passion for variety. Comedy, music and spoken word acts are all welcome for their 5 minutes / 2 songs stage

Comedy, music and spoken word acts are all welcome for their 5 minutes / 2 songs (max 8 minutes) stage time. Pre-book your slot by posting on the wall of the night's Facebook Event. Alternatively, walk up on the night for 5 minutes / 1 song in the 7.30-8.00 section of the show. House Rules:

All pre-booked acts must commit to watching the full 8pm-10pm show. Anyone arriving late may find their slo

t taken by a walk-up. Anyone leaving early will be barred from future bookings. If you expect others to watch you then you should be prepared to do the same. Order of appearance is at the discretion of the MC. Musicians must be prepared to "plug and play". No sound checks and no tuning up once on stage. If you do, it comes out of your stage time. Famous First Words is not a "bringer" night but your efforts to promote your appearance and encourage supporters to come along is much appreciated. All performers are expected to buy at least one drink from the bar. Even half a coke shows the bar you appreciate their hospitality. Drinking tap water all night won't and could ultimately result in this open mic night being cancelled.

-Featured Music Act-

Famous First Words is open to pre-booking one music act a night to close the show with a longer set on the condition you bring a certain number of supporters with you. 5+ gives you 15 minutes. 10+ gives you 20. Less than 5 means you get the standard 2 songs. The venue has a full backline (including drum breakables) and you can soundcheck at 7pm.

London born Dave J Long has now hit his 30’s, and has many tales to tell from his last few decades of living in the English capital.
A lot of his hilarious stories will have him constantly jumping in and out of his childhood, as he shares some past experiences and autobiographical antidotes that will have you gripped right up to the very end.
He also has more than a few observations about modern day society which are extremely comical, as he doesn’t really have a political agenda. Just funny jokes, opinions, tales and antidotes guaranteed to bring a smile to anyone’s face.
Dave J Long is a working class man who, after many years of working in construction, finally decided to distance himself from his 9 to 5 job in the pursuit of delivering his amazing stand up comedy act to many audiences far and wide. He has been doing so since he first started performing back in July 2013, where, even other fellow comedians were amazed at just how good his jokes and stories were at such an early stage in his career. This is extremely rare and something he sees as a very nice compliment as some of the praise he has received has also come from stand up comics who he personally looks up to as well, which he is understandably delighted with.
He has never been on Television or Radio as the best way to experience a show like his is in person, as he is a strong supporter of live comedy in general. And will continue to be after The Camden Fringe as he takes his shows to Wales, Scotland and Ireland too.
His new show ‘Ambivalence’ is by far, the best he has to other and is a great way to spend an evening.

Last night was cracking with János Andersson kicking things off and getting our resident dog's woof of approval. Matt Brookes gave us tales of despair about working in the film industry. Dave Black left us agog with his set about stabbings, a**l s*x and prison. Charlie Ardley lightened the mood with his own compositions and Dave Barron also played a tremendous set. Bleed These Colours shrugged off a broken string to complete a stirring first half.

After the interval, we had Dave Long introducing South London's Headless Co**se Trial, followed by poetry from AJ. Andy Quirk rapped about first world problems. John Ostwind introduced us to her pathology and pined for prostates. Andrew Coleman gave us a unique tip about motivating ourselves in the morning. Luke Gambling gave a great set on guitar and it was left to Edward Unique's poetry and a standout set from Gatis Kandis to close the night. Thanks to everyone who came and performed and see you next week!

Last night at The Gunners Open Mic was fantastic. We opened up with Dangerous T showcasing some new material. Jasmine Choudray made the guys in the audience feel awkward about the fact they still live with their parents. Dave Black gave the lowdown on his family and his upcoming trip to Africa. Then it was a bit of an international flavour with Bianca Da Silva Cristovao telling us about life growing up in the Czech Republic. Kelvin Green was great in his stories about family life and Skyping his ex-wife. Trev Tokabi ended the first half with a stormer of a set, putting a new spin on dating and 'I haven't done this in a while'.

The second half kicked off with an inventive set from Marvin McCarthy featuring s*x stories and Mickey Mouse puns. Ash Burch continued matters with his life growing up in Lewisham and escaping a life of matters. Oleg then crossed a fine line between romantic endeavour and stalking. Nigel Lovell dropped in to tell us all about how he was ousted from his life as an accountant. Paul Ridgeway dropped some fantastic puns and it was left to Chloe Petts to finish the night with her stories about football and a girlfriend who harmonises football chants.

See you next week!
