A tangled web of love, loyalty, shame, and survival at the 2026 Camden Fringe.

EYES SEE SONG

Beneath the surface of six “ordinary” lives lie stories of reproductive health struggles, sexual violence, and addiction — stories so familiar they could belong to us, our friends, our mothers. As their masks fall away, we’re invited to recognise our own hidden truths, tucked deep in our bodies and away from those we love most.

These women call us into their circle — into song, dance, movement, breathwork, and collective release, as they fight to loosen trauma’s grip on the body. With irresistible energy and magnetic charm, Matty, Lala, Laure, Wrinkles, Z, and Chlo remind us that healing is never a solo act. It’s messy, communal, vulnerable, and profoundly human.

BUILDING A CHARACTER

Across four practical workshops, you will explore four influential approaches to building character.

Each session focuses on a different practitioner, combining movement, imagination, improvisation, and text work. The series progresses from psychological realism to physical and imaginative performance techniques:

* Week 1: Stanislavski – Inner Action
Explore objectives, actions, given circumstances, and truthful behaviour.

* Week 2: Michael Chekhov – Imagination & Atmosphere
Discover psychological gesture, atmosphere, centres, and psycho-physical character creation.

* Week 3: Rudolf Laban – Movement Qualities & Effort Actions
Develop unique physical characters through weight, space, time, flow, and movement dynamics.

* Week 4: Jacques Lecoq – Play, Physical Theatre & Character Through the Body
Play with movement, rhythm and physical transformation to create expressive characters.

Each class combines guided exercises, ensemble work, improvisation, and opportunities to apply the techniques to character and text.

A visionary one-woman opera by Helen Epega (The Venus Bushfires), creator of ‘Song Queen: A Pidgin Opera’. S

Set in a post-apocalyptic future still taking form, it explores survival, cultural memory, identity and belonging through a multisensory fusion of operatic voice, African percussion, movement, sound, visual imagery and poetic storytelling.

Inspired by the enduring power of stories and the human desire to remember, the work unfolds through a series of striking visual and sonic movements. As memory fragments and histories fade, a creator searches for meaning amongst the remnants of what has been left behind, grappling with questions of inheritance, authorship and belonging.

Discover the possibilities of multilingual theatre in this dynamic workshop! Through fun, practical exercises, you'll explore how to use voice, movement, and multiple languages to create compelling theatrical scenes. Open to theatre makers who speak any language(s) - including just English.

The course combines warm-ups, improvisation games, and collaborative exercises to build confidence and creativity. Participants will devise their own short performances using a mix of languages, exploring how tone, gestures, and context convey meaning and character.

From the texts that inspired Wagner's Ring cycle and Tolkien's Middle-earth, this song cycle "From the Edda" at the 2026 Tête à Tête Opera Festival brings 10th-century Old Norse poetry to life.

At its centre is the prophetess Völva, who tells us the gory details of how the world was created, as well as how it will be destroyed and born anew. Is the new world a beacon of hope, or a veiled warning?

Moving between ethereal stillness and violent disintegration, the soprano shifts between English, Old Norse, and — in the climax of the cycle — language itself collapses into chaos. Receiving its world premiere at Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival 2026, this 25-minute cycle is performed by Kathleen Ferrier Award-winning soprano Eyra Norman and pianist Alexander Wigglesworth.

Part of Theatre Maker

We will look at what it means to be invisible - looking at transitions between characters or states, especially in solo shows. We will celebrate these moments of change and growth and find the comedy and poetry in these 'in-between' spaces and incorporate them as highlights in our creations. And of course, we will explore various games and tools to help stimulate imagination and generate devising material.

As a facilitator, you will gain tools to overcome language barriers and create more accessible spaces. You will also take away games that spark playfulness and improve well-being by helping people escape reality and unlock their imagination.

As a theatre maker, you will gain tools to revisit your work through a visual & poetic lens that will enhance both the deeper message and the comedy within your show. You will also take away devising games and directing tricks such as poetic language, object journey and transition work.

Making Europe Audible is a concert that the Eunoia Trio created in collaboration with composers Catherine Kontz (LUX) and Henri Växby (FIN/SWE). The performances centre on interviews with extraordinary figures from contemporary history.

DROPPING BOMBS STOLE MY MEMORIES

Questions of identity and memory are raised by combining recorded interview material and reverse speech techniques with vocals, piano, and percussion, thereby creating a Lynchian distortion of linguistic patterns and individual as well as collective memories.

In keeping with Växby’s other works, these simple process pieces oscillate between partially improvised and fully composed elements, creating a whole that combines stark dissonances with gently hypnotic soundscapes and drones.

This piece engages with the strong links between language and cultural belonging. Multilingualism is a natural condition in Luxembourg, helping to dissolve borders and lower barriers between cultures. The rose signifies peace as a living, affirmative condition rather than the silence that follows conflict.

Join The Cockpit's new resident company, The Palimpsest Project, for this full-day workshop, introducing practical techniques for combining performance, camera work, and projection in real time.

Participants will experiment with cameras, objects, miniatures, and performers to create live images, exploring how framing, scale, perspective, and editing can be used to tell stories on stage and deepen the relationship between live performance and projected imagery.

Led by the creators of Imprints, the workshop focuses on live cinema as a devising tool, offering accessible methods for generating material, creating theatrical worlds, and integrating cinematic language into performance.
