Mercury Musical Developments (MMD) is a membership organization dedicated to developing the craft of new musical theatre writing. We nurture and support bookwriters, composers and lyricists through a range of showcasing and development initiatives. Our initiatives not only support writers in developing and continuing their craft but help further their careers. We actively seek out commissions, bui

ld professional networks and are ambassadors on behalf of all our members. At MMD our aim is to support and represent writers who are shaping the future of British musical theatre. MMD began life in 1992 when a group of students studied with Stephen Sondheim at Oxford University. You can learn all about the history of MMD by reading an essay by founding Board Member, Anthony Drewe. In partnership with Musical Theatre Network we make up part of Arts Council England’s National Portfolio and are one of only three organisations supporting the development of new musical theatre to be funded in this way. By joining MMD you automatically become part of a vibrant and ever growing community of writers and artists across the UK and internationally. Ready To Wear is a one-man musical following the great fashion designer Yves Saint-Laurent as he embarks on the daring act of opening his eponymous fashion house. Having been fired from Dior, abused in the military, and hospitalised after a su***de attempt, Yves dares to make art again, forging his first revolutionary ready-to-wear line.

🇬🇧 THEATRE FANS! BBC Four is bringing a classic musical night to your screen this Sunday 25 May. At 9.30pm, they’ll re-air the 1987 Royal Albert Hall gala concert of My Fair Lady, featuring Kiri Te Kanawa, Jeremy Irons and Warren Mitchell, backed by the London Symphony Orchestra.

It follows a rare broadcast of a 1960s concert by Broadway legend Ethel Merman at 8.40pm. A real treat for fans of stage and song.

Mercury Musical Developments and Stiles and Drewe, in partnership with Broadway Licensing Global, have announced the finalists of this year’s Stiles + Drewe Best New Song Prize, which will be celebrated in concert at The Other Palace on 2 December.

All writers, directors, producers and other creators of new musical theatre are invited to an informal meet-up event on Monday 12th August, jointly hosted by Mercury Musical Developments , Musical Theatre Network, Birmingham Hippodrome & Capital Theatres.

Come and meet other musical theatre creatives, make connections, share experiences and find out about the work the host organisations are doing to support new shows.
