A heart-breaking, eye-opening analysis of our complicity in child labour and abuse in the exploitation of mineral resources from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Capitalism was founded on the slave trade. The realisation, reading this book, is that slavery never ended.

A first step in solidarity is education - this book is a good start.

“It is not only genocide, it is culturcide and it is the role of the artists to face this monster with laughter, with a red nose.” - Iman Aoun.

This was an incredible event. convened theatre workers from East Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Ramallah and Jenin alongside Gazan refugees in Egypt - Theatre for Everybody founder Hossam Al Madhoun, along with child refugees participating in drama workshops with their trainers - and Hassan who runs Child Smile in Gaza, continuing to offer theatre workshops for young people to help them through the trauma of the genocide. Four generations of theatre workers came together to support each other: the tenderness between old friends and the care for the young trainers taking up the mantle to keep the children laughing and playing made it feel like an intergenerational family reunion - a reminder that we are all one human family. It was also wonderful to hear from and be inspired by Mustafa Sheta of - free at last!

Thanks to Jonathan Chadwick and our committee member Ruth Lass for arranging this important dialogue. This is what solidarity looks like 🌍❤️✨
