George Fenton
1949–2026

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of George Fenton.

A remarkable composer whose work has left an extraordinary mark on film and television, George recorded at Angel Studios on some of his most celebrated projects, including The Blue Planet, Planet Earth, David Attenborough: Life and BBC’s Frozen Planet.

But his legacy extends beyond the music. George was a wonderful man, a good friend of the studio, a truly great composer and an excellent orator. He leaves behind an extraordinary body of work, as well as a huge number of people who had the privilege of working with him, learning from him and being inspired by him.

Another look behind the scenes of the award-winning Planet Earth II, with new images courtesy of jacobsheamusic, one of the three composers behind the series’ remarkable score.

“With Planet Earth 2 it was a blank slate… We were very nervous going in, but also I think Jacob and I were so excited and hungry to be a part of something like this, that you know, we didn’t sleep. We gave it everything we had to pour our hearts, and mind, and souls into creating something that hopefully was worthy of what we’d see on the screen.” Jasha Klebe Jasha Klebe.

In 2022, Paolo Nutini and his band came to Abbey Road’s Angel Studios to record four live performances from ‘Last Night in the Bittersweet’.

It was a joy to hear ‘Radio’, ‘Through The Echoes’, ‘Lose It’ and ‘Everything’ in the warmth of Angel One, and the team did an impeccable job of capturing.

Released that same year, the album marked Paolo Nutini’s return after eight years and went straight to No.1 in the UK (his third in a row).

In 2016, Planet Earth II became one of television’s defining natural history series, going on to win both an Emmy Award and a BAFTA, recognising the extraordinary impact of the BBC’s landmark series.
