This week the afternoon artists at ColourWheel Muswell Hill branched out into acrylic painting and got thoroughly stuck into creating textured birch tree landscapes. Armed with palette knives, modelling paste and plenty of colour, everyone experimented with bold brushwork, texture and vibrant backgrounds. The finished paintings were full of colour, creativity and individuality and everyone should be very proud of what they achieved. 🌳

This week the morning artists at ColourWheel Muswell Hill explored the vibrant world of acrylic painting as they created beautiful birch tree landscapes on canvas boards. We experimented with warm and cool colour palettes, practised a range of acrylic techniques and used modelling paste to add wonderful texture and dimension to our tree trunks. The combination of rich autumn colours, expressive brushwork and tactile surfaces produced some fantastic results and everyone enjoyed discovering just how versatile acrylics can be. Well done to all our talented painters!

Thank you to the lovely Clive from our afternoon class at ColourWheel Muswell Hill, who has spent the past few weeks putting the finishing touches to this beautiful painting.
Clive has captured the Alexandra Palace boating lake wonderfully, with the colourful pedalos reflected in the water and the iconic palace visible in the distance.
A fantastic piece and a great example of what can be achieved with patience and perseverance. Well done, Clive! 🎨👏

This week the evening students at ColourWheel Muswell Hill stepped back in time and explored the fascinating art of botanical illustration. We stained our paper with teabags to create beautifully aged backgrounds before using masking fluid to preserve the distinctive spots on our mushrooms. As layer by layer of watercolour was added, details began to spore-adically appear! The finished pieces were truly fungi-tastic and captured all the charm of traditional botanical studies. There wasn’t mush-room for improvement. Fantastic work, everyone!

This week our afternoon students stepped back in time and explored the art of botanical illustration. We started by staining our paper with teabags to create a beautifully aged background, giving our work the appearance of an old naturalist's sketchbook. Using masking fluid, we preserved the distinctive white spots on our mushrooms before adding layers of watercolour and watercolour pencil to build colour, texture and detail. The finished pieces wonderfully captured both the beauty of nature and the charm of traditional botanical studies. Well done all!

This week our morning class at ColourWheel Muswell Hill created beautiful mushroom studies inspired by the botanical illustrations that were used in the past to record and identify plants and fungi before the invention of photography. We began by staining our paper with teabags to give it an aged, vintage appearance, then used masking fluid to preserve the white spots and highlights on the mushrooms. Layering watercolours and watercolour pencils allowed us to build colour, texture and detail, resulting in our own botanical-style illustrations. It was a wonderful opportunity to experiment with mixed media techniques while learning about this fascinating artistic tradition.
