Something Crooked This Way Comes...
Crooked Tree Theatre was founded in 2013 with the intention of combining experimental theatre with the DIY ethos of punk. Since then, we have been producing our own original performances in alternative venues around London. We are an LGBTQIA+ and Feminist company with a dark sense of humour, a political perspective, and a love of classic pop-culture.
Our work has been described as Theatre Of The Down-Trodden and Anti-Theatre, due to our “damaged, confrontational and subtly nihilistic” characters and the tragicomic worlds they are trapped within. Our shows often include dark subject matter, surreal satire, gallows humour, and original music by artists from across the UK.
Our previous plays include: Nuclear Family Values, a post-apocalyptic kitchen-sink drama; Family Duels, a faux-Shakespearean tragicomedy about family, filth, and fraud; The Lynch Mob, a q***r trash-noir about a couple of spree-killers in the 1960’s Bible Belt; Eternal Shade, a tale of love, death and drag queen vampires at the dawn of N**i Germany; Life's A S**t Sandwich & Every Day You Take Another Bite and Chocolate Boxes & Happy Pills, two solo shows by Daniel Tremor about love, death, and mental illness in a working-class family; and Ave Moira, a solo show by Rhoda Green about the Virgin Mary, reimagined as an embittered Irish housewife.
