🐍 SOMETHING SINISTER IS STIRRING AT THE EDWARD ALDERTON THEATRE...

This October, we open our new season with Alan Ayckbourn’s darkly comic psychological thriller, Snake in the Grass.

When Annabel Chester returns to the family home following the death of her father, she is confronted by his former nurse with a shocking accusation: her younger sister Miriam may have murdered him.

And that’s only the beginning…

Blackmail. Buried family secrets. Sibling rivalry. Shifting loyalties. Snake in the Grass takes Ayckbourn’s trademark dark humour and leads it somewhere altogether more unsettling. 👀

Directed by Jenny McKiernan, the play brings three formidable female characters together in a twisting story where the past refuses to stay buried and nothing is quite as straightforward as it first appears.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be taking you behind the scenes as the production comes together. We’ll meet Jenny and the cast, delve a little deeper into the play and its celebrated writer, and bring you rehearsal news, photos, video and more.

From gripping psychological drama and classic British comedy to a nostalgic musical celebration of the 1960s, our new season promises something for everyone.

Oh what a night!

Founder members strutting their stuff alongside our newest recruits, we couldn't be prouder of everybody who has played their part at the EAT over the last 50 years.

Back in 1976 ...

Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre and the National Theatre were opened by Queen Elizabeth II.
The Brotherhood of Man won Eurovision.
Anita Roddick opened the first Body Shop.
James Callaghan became Leader of the Labour Party and the UK's Prime Minister (no, he did not call a General Election).
Cadbury's launched a new chocolate bar - the Double Decker
The first Olivier Awards ceremony took place.
The UK enjoyed a long, hot summer heatwave.

And the Edward Alderton Theatre first opened its doors to the public.

I wonder what we'll be looking back on from 2026 when it's time to celebrate 100 years! Hopefully another 50 years of bringing top quality entertainment to our lovely audiences. And maybe another Eurovision win to celebrate (hint for the BBC. Harry. Styles. You can have that one for free!)
