FRENCH-POLISH DESIGN VISIT
Behind the scenes at Krosno Glass

Watching glass being made up close was something special. Our group explored the production halls, felt the heat of the furnaces and saw glassmakers at work, alongside the machines shaping the glass.

We learned about glass melting, how colours are created and the many steps that go into making a finished piece. Above all, it was a chance to meet the people behind the process, ask questions and hear about their work.

Thank you to the KROSNO Glass S.A. team for welcoming us so warmly and sharing your time, knowledge and passion. There is so much to learn from seeing how things are made and meeting the people who make them.

FRENCH-POLISH DESIGN VISIT | KROSNO GLASS Krosno Glass

Exploring the legacy of Polish glassmaking, exchanging creative knowledge and connecting traditional know-how with contemporary design.

On our first day in Krosno, we explored the glass factory’s archives, discovering thousands upon thousands of unique glass pieces produced since 1923. This extraordinary collection provided inspiration for our project, connecting historic forms and craftsmanship with new creative possibilities.

Who Is Thinking When the Hand Does Not Yet Know What It Is Making?

Join us for a fascinating conversation between sculptor Dr Alicja Patanowska and Prof. Lambros Malafouris, exploring how materials, touch and movement shape human thought, creativity and knowledge.

Moderated by Dr Joanna Bagniewska, the discussion will draw on Patanowska’s The Ripple Effect, presented at the V&A in 2025, and her current artistic research residency at the Bodleian Libraries.

A Polish artist who believes that materials have stories to tell.

Working with clay, Alicja explores our relationship with nature, touch and the environment. Her remarkable installation The Ripple Effect, presented at the V&A during London Design Festival 2025, transformed material associated with mining waste into a thought-provoking work about water, responsibility and our planet.
We're also delighted that Alicja is undertaking artistic research at the Bodleian Library, funded by Zygmunt Zaleski Stichting, in collaboration with On & On Designs

🧠 PROFESSOR LAMBROS MALAFOURIS – University of Oxford

What if thinking doesn't happen only inside our heads?

Professor Malafouris explores how our minds, bodies and the objects we interact with shape one another.

His research challenges the way we understand human intelligence, creativity and our relationship with the material world.

An environmental scientist, lecturer and passionate science communicator at the University of Oxford.

A special tour with Agata Świderska-Zięta, co-owner of Zieta Studio at Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, where she shared the ideas, processes and stories behind Zieta Studio’s works presented as part of CURATED CONNECTIONS, Chapter 5: REFLECTIONS.

The exhibition brings together three distinctive approaches to material, form and craftsmanship:

Zieta Studio presents Crystal Totem and Crystal Monoliths, mirror-polished steel sculptures that reflect and refract their surroundings, creating shifting, kaleidoscopic impressions.

Aneta Kocia .kocia presents sculptural ceramic works from her UNDERTOW series. Built entirely by hand, layer by layer, their irregular, undulating forms evoke the movement of water, eroded rock and the natural forces that shape landscapes over time.

Magdalena Zarychta .artist presents her Pulsars, hand-blown glass sculptures shaped while hot and impressed by hand. Their surfaces preserve traces of gesture and movement, while changing light reveals shifting layers of colour and transparency.

A closer look at Polish design at Material Matters .design London 2026.

Zieta Studio presented the sculptural Whispers Bench, illuminated by a constellation of Lampin lighting pieces , alongside Pani Jurek Studio’s OP Ceramic Modular System, an interactive composition of rotating ceramic elements exploring colour, light and space.

Presented at UNLOCKED Shoreditch .shoreditch as part of Shoreditch Design Week and Material Matters London 2026.

The project was realised in collaboration with the Creative Industries Institute .gov.pl , the Polish Cultural Institute London and On&On Designs
