The Great British Chicken Conundrum: Is Your "UK-Packed" Chicken Really British?

Look closely at the chicken in your shopping trolley. Does it say "Packed in the UK" or "Farmed in Great Britain"?

There is a huge difference.

As the image shows, many supermarkets rely on generic, small-print labels (like the one on the left) that can be confusing. "Packed in the UK" often means the chicken was imported from abroad, processed or repackaged here, and given a British-sounding label.

The label on the right is what we believe consumers deserve: clear, large, and honest text detailing exactly where the bird was farmed, not just where it was put in a box.

We are calling for a change.

We want mandatory, prominent, front-of-pack labelling for all meat products that clearly states the country of origin where the animal was reared.

This isn't just about transparency; it’s about supporting our incredible British farmers who meet some of the highest animal welfare and food safety standards in the world.

When we know where our food comes from, we can make informed choices that align with our values. Let’s demand honesty on our food labels.

Counter-terrorism police investigating the death of former MP Ann Widdecombe have reopened an inquiry into an incident reported at Nigel Farage’s south London home in April 2025.
