Whisky enthusiasts in south London are in for a treat this summer as Booze 'N' Blues brings some of Scotland’s finest drams to the Tooting Tram & Social – aka ‘The Tram’ - in a whisky extravaganza experience (see flyer attached).
‘The Tram’ will play
host to 'Booze ‘N’ Blues' tasting evenings on 30th June and on 28th July - the first event of its kind to take place in south London on such a scale. Each session will kick off with a fun and interactive whisky tasting, led by enthusiastic whisky expert and industry legend Mr Colin Dunn, interspersed with live rhythm and blues from his renowned band The Lagavulins. Five delicious drams from around Scotland will be served, showcasing a range of whiskies from different distilleries in the different whisky regions. Snacks will also be served during the tasting. Afterwards guests will be invited to stay for the whisky disco which runs until 11.30pm. Patrick McCourt, who manages a whisky bar on Old Compton Street, is organising the event and hopes to drive his passion for whisky beyond central London. He said: “Tooting has been crying out for a regular, fun, whisky tasting experience. I live in Tooting and am forever hearing from people just how much they love whisky, so I thought, let’s put some exciting events on, a whisky tasting with a difference. Also the Tram is the perfect venue, it looks like an old whisky room with state of the art equipment, perfect for our Booze 'N' Blues evenings!"
Hidden down an alley just off of Mitcham Road is The Tooting Tram and Social (‘The Tram’), a former tram shed converted into a stylish bar by the Antic chain who have over 30 watering holes spread around London. Just seconds walk from Tooting Broadway Underground, the large main hall and mezzanine level provide customers with a uniquely kitted-out decor including looming chandeliers and huge leather sofas, while the bar sells a wide range of beers, spirits and wines. The Tram is renowned for its vast scope of live events including burlesque and cabaret nights, craft fairs, rockaoke, open mic nights and weekly DJ sets. While XFM's John Kennedy hosts regular band nights, with Kate Nash and Turin Brakes performing recently.
