In 2021 I started selling Kampala-style tops. I had extra money in my account and didn’t want it to just sit there, so I decided to try selling mostly for fun. I was shy and a little afraid 😳; I barely talked to people, stayed indoors, and didn’t advertise. I was still working at Obafemi Awolowo University in the Bukateria, so selling wasn’t my main focus.
But something surprising happened. Whenever someone saw the tops on me or on this lady, they wanted one immediately. Without running ads or posting online, I sold out my entire stock in just three days twice. No stress. No flaws. No oral advertisement.
That experience changed my mindset. It showed me that when your product is good, people will respond. It also made me realize something powerful: imagine how far I could have gone if I had advertised confidently.
Now I understand never be afraid to put your work out there. Never hide your gift. I even sold five pieces to someone I never imagined would buy from me; he bought them for his staff. I sold to everyday people and to prominent individuals simply because I showed up.
If there’s one lesson from this
it’s this:
CONFIDENCE + VISIBILITY = RESULTS. Don’t sleep on your potential.
