See you here

‘…something known, but somewhat unknown: Melchior’s work reflects on our shared experience while pointing, almost imperceptibly, towards the solitary nature of being. Her images begin with the recognisable, the visual material of ordinary life, but resist the reassurance of a larger narrative.”

don’t miss the train

today

“...O. Winston Link became famous for documenting almost cinematically the final years of steam railroading, particularly the Norfolk and Western Railway in Virginia, with night photographs, lit by miles of flashbulbs that Link laid out in preparation and synchronised at the exact spot he had planned. Having been given the key to the entire railroad, he could plan exact timings and was well known to the train drivers who would be suddenly illuminated by enormous flashes of light. Link owned his own steam train (and was very keen on white steam in his photographs) while also documenting a rural 1950’s American life, drive-in movies, gas filling stations, waiting rooms in general stores. It was RUPERT MARTIN, a young curator at the PHOTOGRAPHERS GALLERY London in the 1980’s who found him and his work in NEW YORK and gave him an enormously successful exhibition in London that led to his fame as a GREAT AMERICAN PHOTOGRAPHER.”
