Inspiring weekend PART 2:

On Sunday I headed up to Birmingham to record the first part of a new album of delicious French song with Sylvia Schwartz and Sergey Rybin. We’re resuming this coming Sunday, which gives me something amazing to look forward to ☺️

Tech note - I’m firmly on the immersive audio train, so this album will be ready for Dolby Atmos 🔥For anyone not in the know, that’s why there’s that humungous array of extra microphones to capture the space in surround.

An inspiring weekend PART 1

A mad 3 day recording marathon, every day a different setup. This was Day 2 - recording and filming the final of the Rebecca Clarke Song Competition

5 fantastic performances, great repertoire I’d never heard, absolutely inspiring! I always feel uplifted after any SWAP’ra project I’m lucky enough to work on, and this was no different 🥰

On a tech note - look at my sleek new mic stands 😎 Looking forward to deploying these in live recital recordings going forward.

Apologies for the radio silence, the run-up to Christmas turned out to be very very busy. Here’s a collage of the last few months as well as some treasured 2025 projects as I look back on the year just gone.

It started out as a very tough year work-wise and creatively, but through some thoughtful recalibration it ended on something of a high note 😄 I don’t want to go into a blow-by-blow of circumstances, but I do want to list the various areas of my endeavours and point out some highlights.

First off, .recording.days is going strong. I restructured my original Drop-In Recording Days in the Autumn to bring the price point as low as possible without sacrificing my signature sound and video quality, and it’s proved a hit! It has always been my philosophy to provide an affordable but rock-solid and great-sounding service to the singing community, and through LRD that mission continues to thrive, now with two distinct offerings that have each found their own client base… no, community 🥰

This year also saw a big uptick in my workshop and lecture work. I was invited to work with the singers from the Queen Sonja Singing Competition Opera Academy as well as the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. I also gave a presentation to the Opera Europa AVD Forum in Madrid on how I approach producing audition tapes. I’d love to do more in this space in future!

I want to highlight two 2025 releases that I had a hand in producing: Quatre chansons de jeunesse with and .mourier.piano, and 3 Songs of Mary with .gregg and - both available to stream :)

I am immensely grateful to the hundreds of singers and multiple companies who continue to have faith in what I do. I get to work with exceptionally talented musicians, have a hand in guiding artists through the recording process and how it fits into a wider career, and also record/film some stunning performances and projects. Lucky me :)

Here’s to more in 2026!

And that was September! From the release of Ian Pillow’s 3 Songs for Mary (not pictured, but on Spotify 😉) through guest appearing on (not pictured, but on Spotify 😉), filming 2 epic concerts ( and ), and plenty of .recording.days sessions, it was definitely a month 😅

October doesn’t let up - catching up on post-production, off to Norway and Birmingham to deliver workshops, LRD; then November will see some exciting filming and a trip to Spain… Life is busy, life is good ☺️

Out today! I had the privilege of producing the 3 Songs of Mary for this disc of new works by Ian Pillow.

This was such a fun recording to make and features the phenomenal talents of .gregg.soprano and bringing Ian’s songs to life. The album also features orchestral works with soloists Joseph Skypala and Rosalie Curlett, which were recorded in Belfast by Richard Campbell and Christopher Gough. The album was then mastered by who did an amazing job bringing the separate recordings into a cohesive soundworld.

The music is lyrical, challenging, madcap, bluesy, cinematic… it has everything 😂 Give it a listen!

And there goes August!

Lots of wonderful .recording.days sessions, as always :) but the highlight was going to Oslo for the 🤩

From attending the semifinal, through talking to some of the amazing jurors, being on a panel of industry leaders, delivering a lecture and Q&A to the and cohorts… it was a phenomenal experience and left me with a real fire in my belly to do more work in the area of developing singers’ performance skills specifically for the medium of video. There’s a big gap in training, but more importantly a huge opportunity to empower singers to show off more of their personality and artistry within the confines of an audition tape.

Oh, and obviously I watched the final of the competition on .eu - what a phenomenal initiative that is! I believe you can watch some of my favourite young singers on there right now in the RCM production of Le nozze di Figaro 😉 as well as the QSSC final.

Running total: 178

A look back at July 👀

Alongside my .recording.days work, I got to produce videos for the Alvarez Emerging Artists at their stunning new facilities (Garsington Studios), as well as for the Young Artists of . There is SO MUCH vocal talent in the UK, and I can’t express how much I love being immersed in it 😊

I also recorded and filmed an operatic double-bill for in the RCM Britten Theatre. A pretty large undertaking, so I enlisted the help of my LRD partner-in-crime - to bounce ideas off of and operate one of the cameras. Excited to get stuck into the edit of the show 🤓💻

I also got to spend a day at Champs Hill filming 🎥 some fly-on-the-wall footage to (eventually) promote the upcoming EP of new works by Lee Bradshaw performed by and 💿

Oh, and we also managed to fit in a week away in Cornwall with family and the doggie 💪🗺️

Running total: audition tapes produced for 153 singers in 2025

Kicking off 2025 with a recording of Eugene Onegin highlights with

The cast sounds epic, the orchestra is on point, and I managed to ‘fix’ one of the church lights, so the soloists will be illuminated on film. Should be a great evening!
