One World Folk Festival

One World Folk Festival Traditional music from around the world performed by local and international artists.

The One World Folk Festival is a celebration of the diverse and vibrant cultures that have come together over successive generations and chosen Haringey as their home. We offer an opportunity for artists and groups to perform folk or roots music from around the world.

We are searching for local musicians to perform at the International Music Event, Lordship Hub on Saturday 10th September 2014.

The festival is for the folk and traditional musics of the world. Last year's line-up included reggae, steel drums, blues, klezmer, and a pipe band, among other things!

Do you know musicians who could bring Turkish, Portuguese, South American, West, Central or Southern African music to the festival? Or music from Eastern or Western Europe, India, China, or anywhere else in the world? We reckon we've got nearly all the world here in Tottenham, and we want to see it on stage!

Performers will do a 20 minute set during the afternoon of 10th September between 1pm and 6pm (approx). All performances will be inside the Hub's General Activity Room.

We can offer a small fee, in line with the community-organised and non-profit-making nature of the event, which is completely free to the public. We will consider experienced performers alongside first-timers - could this be your first ever gig?

Performers should email [email protected] with the following information before Friday 19th August:
Name of act
Type of act - Size of band; Genre (eg Ghanaian Highlife); Singers and instruments (eg solo singer and guitarist; unaccompanied trio; 12-piece guitar band with sax and drums)
Performance history (info on previous and upcoming gigs, if any)
Links to website, Youtube, etc where we can hear your music (or contact us for an address to send your CD)
Fee required (please be prepared to negotiate)
Any accessibility or other requirements
Preferred perfomance time, if any

IN THE HUB

12.00-12.30 Musichall – technician Andy steps out from behind the sound desk to bring us his own unique brand of music

12.30-1.00 Ereni Mendrinos and Pavlos Melas – Musical doodles and oodles of love! Greek songs and some self-penned folk songs

1.00-1.30 Gnawa UK – A big hit last year. Compelling North African beats and vocals from the Gnawa tradition of Morocco

1.30-2.00 London Rainforest Choir – The joyful singing of the Baka rainforest people of Central Africa goes back thousands of years - this is where music first began!

We move across to the Shell stage outside (by the skate/bmx area of the park)

ON THE SHELL STAGE

2.15-2.45 Humsvision and Waveline – groove along to local soul band

2.45-3.15 Faye Patton – Faye wowed the crowds last year and is back with her fabulous voic, bringing self-penned Nu-jazz with folk influences

3.15-3.45 Dana Immanuel and The Stolen Band – Last year's Yaldi morphs into a new formation headed up by powerful lead vocalist Dana. Upbeat bluegrass numbers, some original Yaldi tunes, and world folk music

3.45-4.15 Talentos Group – South America comes to the Shell with the swirling colours of Tottenham's own Colombian dance group

4.15-4.45 Jacquelyn Hynes - Silver and Wood – Leading Irish folk-flautist and multi-instrumentalist has graced the stages at the Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Barbican - and now the Shell! Performing today in a quartet of flutes, harp, and guitar accompanied by Tunisian percussionist Zinga Rabhi

4.45-5.15 Pan Nation – Massive energy from a whole stage-full of Steel Pans. Say no more!

5.30-6.00 Kaya – Young and talented local singer/songwriter makes a welcome return to the Hub

6.00-6.30 Stanley – Hackney-born songwriter/singer/guitarist inspired by Tracy Chapman and Bob Marley. Simple music for a compicated world

6.30-7.00 Fiorsach Rosie – Get on your feet for a final session of ceilidh tunes to send us dancing out into the night.
