Did you know Deaf people in the UK have been fighting for recognition for centuries? From the first Deaf school in 1760 to the BSL Act in 2022, every milestone matters.

Sign language is more than a language, it’s a human right. Without it, access to education, healthcare, and justice is incomplete.

🗓️This September, for Deaf Awareness Month, we remember Deaf history and continue the fight: “No Human Rights Without Sign Language Rights.”

The shocking news about Zahwa Salah Mukhtar aka ‘Zee’ has been heartbreaking 💔 She was a big part of Hackney Deaf Club family. Always coming, always supporting, always smiling. She made people feel happy, loved and cared for. Zee was only 27. She was kind, beautiful and had big dreams. Many people met her here at HDC and became friends. We all love her. We will miss her so much. Her memory will keep forever in our hearts 🤲🕊️🤍
