Hot on the heels of Camden Fringe and off-West End success, 1816 returns to the stage.

It’s Byron and Shelley, as you've never seen them before in this Friends meets Frankenstein comedy-drama musical. 1816 is the ultimate origin story of the first modern vampire novel and Frankenstein, where a group of five Romantics get trapped for a summer they'd rather forget in their storm-swept villa by Lake Geneva...

After a successful run at the Camden Fringe, Cambridge student musical ‘1816: The Year Without A Summer’ is at London's Lion & Unicorn Theatre from 30 September🙌

The show, which is co-written by Trinity student Nat Riches and Downing alumna Natasha Atkinson, is inspired by the ‘haunted summer’ of 1816, when tumultuous weather confined writers including Lord Byron, Percy Shelley and Mary Godwin (later Shelley) to a villa beside Lake Geneva.

Two Cambridge friends have created a musical inspired by Frankenstein and the first vampire novel 🎶

Nat Riches and Natasha Atkinson were intrigued by the stormy summer of 1816, when extreme weather confined Lord Byron, Percy Shelley and Mary Godwin (later Mary Shelley) to a villa by Lake Geneva.

Byron challenged his guests to write the scariest ghost story, which led to the creation of 'Frankenstein' and 'The Vampyre' – two of the greatest horror stories over the last 200 years.

Nat and Natasha's musical, '1816: The Year Without a Summer', brings these literary characters to life and premieres today at the Camden Fringe Festival.
