Leonardo started his drawings with a delicate but precise sketch of the entire subject before building up layers of slightly darker lines to define the form. He would eventually build up shadows with layers of hatching in one direction. On top of this linear and tonal design he would refine the drawing, adding accents to selective details.

The original drawing, kept at the , is one of Leonardo’s most famous drawings and demonstrates his supreme diligence and patience as a draughtsmen. So many artists have been inspired to explore silverpont by this drawing to this day. Here I have replicated it with the same materials used by Leonardo.

Drawing as a means to enquire and deepen our experience of seeing makes our work more authentic and expressive. Natusmi will be taking inspiration from Leonardo da Vinci in the long awaited return of her Silent Drama performative sessions with us!

These sessions will include an aspect unique to the collaborations between Natsumi and The Renaissance Workshop; the Silent Drama is a series of poses held for a varying and indeterminate length between slow movement. This is a performance to show the power of the n**e to express inner-feeling.

The inspiration we take from classical mythology can breathe mystery and meaning into our art now. In these Life Drawing Online sessions we are collaborating with Luisina to bring you a narrative of love, fear and enclosure. We will encourage you to draw the pose in a manner inspired by the Old Masters to conjure a sense of action and the internal state of the mind through the expression of the body.

These sessions will tell the story of Ariadne helping Theseus escape the Minotaur. There will be striking chiaroscuro and dynamic poses to illuminate the story.
