CineMediterra Film Festival is a weekend-long celebration of Mediterranean cinema held at Hackney Picturehouse in East London. Each edition showcases a curated selection of feature films and short films from across the Mediterranean region. 🌞

If you are a filmmaker from France, Italy, Greece, Spain, Turkey, or any other Mediterranean country or if your film was made a film in this Mediterranean region, we invite you to submit your film for our next edition. 🦭

Marjane Satrapi, the acclaimed Iranian-French graphic novelist and filmmaker best known for Persepolis and its animated film adaptation, died in Paris on 4 June 2026 at the age of 56. Multiple news outlets, including Reuters, reported that her family said she died “of sadness” a little over a year after the death of her husband, Swedish producer, actor and screenwriter Mattias Ripa.

A beautiful day of Mediterranean cinema, special screenings, and unforgettable live music at Hackney Picturehouse.

Saturday’s programme featured the Italian film Taxi Monamour, the beloved Turkish classic Korkuyorum Anne (What’s a Human Anyway?), and a vibrant live performance by Hot Swing Bohème, filling the evening with French gypsy jazz and Mediterranean spirit. 🎞️🎶💛

Set within a nostalgic Istanbul neighbourhood, the film follows a tight web of families and close friends as Ali’s presence quietly reshapes their everyday lives.

Meet our wonderful hosts for CineMediterra’s April edition: and 🤩🌸

Ezgi Kocer is a Turkish actress and performer currently based in England. Working across acting and live performance, her practice is shaped by a strong interest in storytelling, presence, and emotional expression. With her background in performance, she brings a thoughtful and engaging energy to the spaces she is part of, and we are very happy to have her with us for this special edition of CineMediterra.

Deniz Elif Paker is a London-based multidisciplinary designer and a graduate of the Design programme at Goldsmiths, University of London. Her creative practice is shaped by a strong connection to design, art, film, and visual culture. With her open and playful approach, she brings a warm and curious perspective to the spaces she is part of, and we are very happy to have her with us for this special edition of CineMediterra.

Deniz Kırkalı is an independent curator and writer based between Istanbul and London. Working across curating, research, and writing, her practice is shaped by a strong interest in contemporary art and critical inquiry. With her international experience and thoughtful perspective, she brings a rich and engaging presence to the spaces she is part of, and we are very happy to have her with us for this special edition of CineMediterra.
