Miloš Forman's beautifully observed exploration of love, youth, optimism, and disappointment screens at The Garden Cinema this Saturday 12th September from 6pm.

Writer, editor, and expert in Central and Eastern European film, Michael Brooke, will introduce the film, its themes, and place in the Czech New Wave.

Jan Němec’s thrilling debut feature DIAMONDS OF THE NIGHT screens at the beautiful The Garden Cinema this Thursday 10th September from 6PM, with special introduction by Mehelli Modi, founder of Second Run.
Additional screenings: 23rd September at 3.30pm, and 20th October at 4pm.

Told almost without dialogue, this cinematic gem chronicles the tense and desperate journey of two teenage boys who are trying to stay alive after escaping from a German train bound for a N**i concentration camp during World War II.

It was our pleasure to be part of the launch of the Czechoslovak New Wave season at the beautiful The Garden Cinema on Friday night!

Catch the season throughout September and October - the programme features many gems of the Czechoslovak New Wave, including Miloš Forman’s brilliant satirical comedy The Firemen’s Ball, Věra Chytilová´s j iconic Daisies, the Oscar-winners Closely Watched Trains, and The Shop on the High Street, and many more.

Huge thanks goes to the programme’s curator George Crosthwait for putting together such a wonderful retrospective and for his in-depth introduction at the opening night.
Many thanks also to tebe musicians who further enhanced the opening evening with popular Czech music from the ‘60s. 🎶🎶

🎥🎞️ We're thrilled to partner with The Garden Cinema to present a thorough retrospective of the brilliant CZECHOSLOVAK NEW WAVE!

Of all the cinematic movements that swept the globe in the aftermath of the Second World War, the Czechoslovak New Wave stands out to this day as one of the most politically focused and creatively integrated, with cinematic gems remarkable in their thematic complexity, daring satire, and dazzling formal experimentation.

The series opens this Saturday 5th September with Vojtěch Jasný's beloved fantasy THE CASSANDRA CAT (Až přijde kocour), and the screening will be preceded with live music from 1960s - see you there! 🎶 🎶
