A different way to experience coffee ☕️

On Monday 10 August, TEiP is popping up at Moonstruck Café for a special event.

We’ll explore coffee through the lens of philosophy, and philosophy through the lens of coffee.

We’ll discuss three original, human-written thought experiments inspired by life, literature, and sources including The Book of Coffee by Julian Baggini with James Hoffmann.

TEiP community member Lionel Crasto , who also happens to be a coffee ambassador and award-winning barista, will provide exceptional coffee (including decaf) and expert knowledge.

As always, everyone is welcome, whatever your experience of philosophy or coffee!

Monday 10 August 2026
6.30–8pm
Moonstruck Café, 153 South Lambeth Road

This time last week we were discussing thought experiments about AI and technology at Newspeak House.

Special guest author gave us lots to think about and introduced us to some really useful language for talking and thinking about the impact of technology on our lives.

One participant, , wrote a thoughtful piece afterwards about the way the discussions made her think about decision-making as a woman in her early twenties. (I’ve restacked it on Substack, so you can find it via the link in my bio.)

We’re excited for Fran’s new concept of “The Thinking Gym” 👀…her final sentence in this video feels particularly auspicious for anyone hoping for more…

My beautiful friend Tanit interviewed people at our July Party in the Park for the first ever TEiP Talks.

I was so touched by the thoughtful responses and kind words about THOUGHT EXPERIMENTS IN PUBS.

Sadly, we lost a few of the interviews due to a mic failure, but these three give a great sense of the day.

I’m looking forward to sharing more voices, reflections, and ideas from the community through TEiP Talks.

A few moments from Saturday’s THOUGHT EXPERIMENTS IN PUBS Party in the Park.

We spent the afternoon under the trees thinking together about “peace”

Thank you to everyone who came. For your curiosity, kindness, and willingness to listen to one another.

See you at the next one. 🌿

“I’m not sure what this is, but I support it.”

A friend of mine recently sent me this 👆message on Instagram.

He said he didn’t understand what THOUGHT EXPERIMENTS IN PUBS (TEiP) was, because I hadn’t explained it properly.

He liked the vibe of the page, but found it enigmatic (feedback that subscribers to my Substack will recognise)…

Over the past three and a half years, I’ve put most of my energy into the offline world of human connection and event creation.

This is why we have a community of over 7000 real event attendees on meetup, and only 800 followers here on Instagram 😅

I’m really happy with the slow and authentic way I created THOUGHT EXPERIMENTS IN PUBS…🐌

TEiP was never about going viral with a catchy new event (though to my astonishment, over 100 people turned up to the first one!)

TEiP has always been about creating genuine, thoughtful opportunities for people to hear each others’ perspectives.

And I believe that is why people love TEiP…and why all our events sell out without any advertising.

So I’m glad that despite not being a great example of marketing, our Instagram presence reflects one of the most important ingredients in the success of our in person events: a desire to get off the phone and talk to real humans.

(I think of this Instagram account as a scrapbook of sorts, collecting snippets from the TEiP journey as it evolves).

If you’ve read this far, you might now be wondering why I am bothering to post this on Instagram. A bit ironic, no?

My friend’s comment was helpful because it made me realise I find it difficult to sum up the magic of our gatherings. So I took it as an assignment and created this carousel.

I’d love to hear your thoughts (whether you have attended TEiP or not).

I enjoyed making it a lot more than I expected. So watch this space.

But mostly, watch another space…

I share reflections on the slow evolution of THOUGHT EXPERIMENTS IN PUBS and other creative gatherings on…

My Substack: ‘EXPERIMENTS IN GROUP WISDOM’ and you can find it via the link in bio ❤️

Thank you for being part of the journey.

Bonny 🙏

Is anything objectively lucky? 🍀

Or, as the parable suggests, do we always have to “WAIT & SEE”?

This and many other questions raised by a collaborative brainstorm…

…and distilled into three thought experiments 💡

I started in February 2023…and we haven’t repeated a thought experiment yet 🙃

In September, we’ll rerun some of the greatest hits.

Let me know if you think “LUCK” should be on the list.
