📣📣IMPORTANT UPDATE📣📣

We’re sorry to announce that our forthcoming One Artist / One Work / One Conversation talk with Zelga Simone Miller has had to be postponed. A new date will be announced soon.

Zelga’s practice explores tenderness, care and collective strength through the expressive language of physical form and gesture. Working across painting, drawing and woodblock print, she uses subtle veils of colour, reductive lines and intimate details to consider vulnerability, resilience and the complexities of contemporary womanhood.

We very much look forward to welcoming Zelga and sharing her work with you.

Stay tuned for the rescheduled date.📣 💕

ONE CONVERSATION

This Thursday, we welcome Alice Sheppard Fidler and her work *On their own, sh*t’s happening*.

Made from recycled velvet, hand-dyed with turmeric and filled with rice, these small geometric forms sit somewhere between order and improvisation, familiarity and strangeness. Over the course of the exhibition, their colour will gradually fade in the light—quietly recording the passage of time and reminding us that change is often happening before we notice it.

Alice’s practice explores embodiment, materiality and what it means to be human, transforming found and waste materials through subtle, tender and sometimes absurd interventions.

Join us for a conversation about materials, presence, uncertainty—and a work that changes through the simple act of being exhibited.

📣📣Next 📣📣ONE ARTIST / ONE WORK / ONE CONVERSATION

This Thursday, we welcome R. James Healy to Unit 1 Gallery | Workshop.

Moving between technology and traditional craftsmanship, Healy’s practice explores perception—how we see, and how meaning is constructed from what we see. His physical works draw upon a remarkable career in animation and visual effects, combining kinetic, sequential and algorithmic systems with the presence and precision of the handmade.

Having worked internationally as a CG and VFX supervisor—with recognition including a D&AD Pencil and British Animation Award—Healy turned his attention to physical artworks in 2022. The result is a fascinating practice situated between the digital and material worlds: work that does not simply present an image, but asks us to notice the mechanisms through which an image becomes meaningful.

Join us for an intimate encounter with one artist, one work, and the conversation that unfolds between them.

🥂📣 Next Up Jane Millar 📣 Come join the conversation & get to know this artists intriguing practice - Jane Millar makes hand-built clay and ceramic sculptures that explore speculative futures and the relationship between human and more-than-human environments.

Drawing on research into early humans, material culture and environmental change, her works combine familiar yet strangely repurposed forms — tools, hooks, bricks, bulbs, moons, brushes and vessels — creating objects whose purpose feels uncertain, practical, ritual or perhaps magical.

Millar thinks of these works as a kind of future archaeology: objects from a place-in-progress, where there are no instructions and meanings remain open. For her, imagining futures and making new realities becomes a creative strategy for hope and survival.

Jane Millar joins us Thursday 3 September at 7pm for One Artist | One Work | One Conversation.

📣📣The first work actually on the wall.📣📣

For the third edition of **One Artist / One Work / One Conversation**, we welcome Hampshire-based figurative painter **Georgina Lowbridge** with *New Dad*.

Lowbridge’s paintings emerge from close observation of contemporary family life. Since becoming a mother in 2022, her attention has increasingly turned to parenthood, domestic intimacy and the subtle negotiations between family members, technology and their shared environment.

In *New Dad*, her husband sleeps fully clothed on the sofa, surrounded by the remnants and paraphernalia of early parenthood—including dinner plates, wet wipes and a breast pump. Monumentalising this familiar moment, Lowbridge transforms domestic exhaustion into a scene of tenderness, vulnerability and quiet humour.

Join us tomorrow evening as we spend time with one painting, one artist and the conversation that unfolds between them.

📣Talk 2 — Up Next!📣
One Artist. One Work. One Conversation. Kai-Hsuan Chang

We had such a great evening last Thursday with Victoria Gong Victoria Gong 龚 珏眉 Now, another chance to gather, slow down, spend time with a single work — and hear directly from the artist who made it.

Thursday 20 August, 7pm
Kai-Hsuan Chang

Kai-Hsuan Chang is a Taiwanese Paiwan artist based in London, working across sculpture, installation, performance and moving image.

Drawing on Indigenous histories, family memory and experiences of displacement, his practice explores how identities, bodies and landscapes are reshaped by systems of power — and the shifting space between belonging and estrangement.

Bringing together everyday, industrial and handcrafted materials, his work connects personal and Indigenous memory with larger histories of colonialism, technology and cultural transformation. Meaning is not offered through a single image or fixed narrative; it emerges slowly through material, scale, distance, balance and encounter.

Come and spend time with the work.
Gather. Look. Listen. Ask questions. Stay for the conversation.

đź’•Thank you Victoria Gong for being the very first One Artist / One Wall / One Conversation.đź’•

Despite record-breaking heat and a few inevitable first-night technical glitches, Victoria’s extraordinary video work DRACULA + THE MACHINE held the room.

What made the evening so special was the opportunity to slow down, spend time with one work, and hear directly from the artist. Victoria spoke with such intelligence and openness about the deeply personal territory behind the work, the challenges of making it, and the thinking that shaped it.

I’m thrilled to have had the opportunity to get to know Victoria and her practice more deeply — and enormously grateful to her for trusting us with such an impressive work for the first evening of this new series. Thank you to the great audience for great questions & for rescuing

Thank you, Victoria. What a way to begin.
